Doppelganger - are they common or not?!

Has anyone been told there's someone who looks like them out there?

Last week (and it sort of played on my mind) someone in my office (only been here since last November) came up to me and swore blind they'd just walked past someone who looked just like me in the street, they'd said hello to me but I hadn't answered.

It wasn't me as I hadn't gone out for lunch.

They then mentioned I must have a doppelganger. Is this common?! Sounds utterly mad!

Many years ago I worked in a department store (I was about 17, Saturday job). People kept calling me by a different name and I kept correcting them and they said "oh God you look just like X". This went on for a few weeks. One morning, I got in and saw what I thought was a reflection of myself in the mirrored wall until the reflection was smilling back at me and there she was, a woman who could have been my twin. It is utterly disconcerting and weird. We had absolutely no connections whatsoever but I am absolutely sure that our DNA was somehow intertwined somewhere. I never saw her again after I left to go into full time work and sometimes wonder if we'd still look the same. Very odd phenomenon.

Yes many years ago there was a photo in my local paper of a woman who looked exactly like me. I cut it out without the caption and sent it to my Mum and she thought it was me.

I once saw my adult DD's double on a Canadian property programme. The other woman was slightly plumper but what was really striking was how similar the body language was. Her smile, laugh and general expression were just like my DD. Even the way she held her head. It wasn't just her features. Even DH was taken aback!

I opened up our local paper one day and saw 'my' face staring back at me from an ad. The face belonged to a woman who was opening a hair salon in the town, her hair was even styled in exactly the same way as I wore mine at the time. I felt quite unsettled by it.

Yes, I know him as he dated an ex before I did, I don’t hugely see it, but I sometimes get confused for him. He is/was a little bit famous so I have been asked for autographs before/had some verbal agro from fans:

My BIL has! We walked into family party and nearly said hi to doppelgänger instead of BIL. What makes it spookier is doppelgänger is now due to become BIL's BIL and my SIL and her sister look exactly the same.

As two couples they look so similar that there's now a running joke about borrowing wedding photos instead of going to all the expense of having new ones.

Yes I have been told I had one years ago, a blonde nurse who lived down my street. But we never, ever saw each other?! It was werid. A few people said I blanked them out and about, around the time i just gave birth. I said it was impossible because i had stayed home for 2 weeks! I would love to see her though.

My dad had one in a different country. Went up said hello, took photos, the bloke was bewildered and my dad had no idea what was going on.

I have 2.
When I was 19 I returned to uni after the Christmas break and 3 of the girls in my halls were asking if I’d worked over Christmas. I had, and told them but they said they meant my other job and insisted they’d seen me modelling in a teen magazine. It wasn’t me, but even when I told them that they brought the magazine out as “proof” and kept insisting.
I met my other one. In a nightclub one of my friends spotted her and dragged her over to show me. We both thought it was just a passing resemblance until my friends and hers took photos of us together and we realised that we both kept mistaking ourselves for the other one in the photos and had to check outfits to see who was who (as in : I didn’t remember drinking wine/ see you take that picture... oh, that’s not me)

I took a photo of myself holding a hot chocolate cup in front of an xmas tree and there’s me walking past in the background. It’s obviously not me because I’m taking the photo but it is very freaky!

I have one in St Albans! She was in court the week before I had jury service. It caused problems with the security people at the jurors entrance and the lady in charge of making sure the jury's there had to prove I was who I said I am to the judge.

In a coffee shop I was yelled at by a group of her mums friends for ignoring them. They were as embarrassed as I was. We have the same clothes taste and mannerisms according to them.

We've also had the same lady do our eyebrows.
