Has anyone quit smoking using nicotine patches?

Hello, I stupidly started smoking when I was at secondary school, I would have been around 15, Im now 38 (I know how stupid I have been)

I have tried in the past to quit, but always found an excuse to start again, this time I have made my mind up that now is the time to stop, I actually want to this time.

I have tried the gum in the past and hated them/the taste, and I don't want to start vaping (my mum has one and I have tried a few of her flavours and I can't stand them)

I think the patches would be right for me, but do they help? I am going out in the morning to buy some, so just thought I would ask if anyone has sucessfully quit using them? I know I will need a lot of willpower as well!

Thanks.

Tried them twice sorry they don’t work for me. They might work for you though

My DH quit successfully using the patches Smile

I’m using them at the moment, have been on 21mg for about 6 weeks, going down to 14mg this week. I’ve tried to quit before without any NRT but never lasted more than a few days so I think patches do help.

They worked for me-smoke free since 1997.

Nicotine gum
I chew it all the time it's the only thing that's worked for me

Vaping worked for me.

My husband tried to quit on patches twice but only Chamois worked for him.

Champix! Fucking phone.

The under your tongue lozenges worked for me. Then I started again a year later 🙄 I switched to vaping, gradually reduced the nic down to 0% and then threw the vape away. I think whichever means you try, if you're determined you will do it! Good luck!

I used patches, they worked for me, and I was a heavy smoker. I hate chewing gum, so that was a non starter, and replacement cigs (such as e-cigs) just had the effect of making me desperately want a real one.
In March I'll be 15 years smoke free.

Patches do help, but put them on in the morning or they screw your sleep. Also you can add in gum or lozenges for the first few days.
I went back to smoking but then quit successfully on champix. I went through the stop smoking service and someone to talk to about WHY I smoked, she was sort of a smoking counsellor and was really helpful.

Not patches - tried them but wasn't happy about them, I felt I wasn't in control.

Niquitin minis helped me, they were great but I have to say I was determined. You have to really want to give up. It's years ago now and I'd been smoking longer than you but I reached a stage where I thought, "I'm giving up!", and just did. It really wasn't as difficult as I'd imagined - earlier attempts had been impossible. You're right about willpower.

You don't say how much you smoke in a day.

Good luck to you, well done for being determined!
[drink] I'm not suggesting you take to the bottle as an alternative to cigarettes :-).
