I find myself unemployed, and I'm after advice

The charity I worked for closed the department I was in just before xmas. It was a part time job

I also run my own small business so I'm not destitute but need to replace the main income.

What does a CV look like in 2020? It's bee ages since I updated mine, I have done some googling and found so many conflicting examples. Seeing as I have a portfolio career and varied skills set should I do a skills based one? A project-based one? A chronological one? Do employers like flashy CV's these days with pretty borders or graphics?? Photo or no photo?

If anyone could give me a shove in the right direction that would be a great help.

If anyone has a job I could do 700 quid a month i'd also be really happy :)

Chronological order and no photo's! Keep it short simple and to the point employers hate wordy cvs when they have a whole stack to get through and your more likely to be tossed in the bin for been wordy and flashy. State your experience and strong points for each job you've had and always attach a good cover letter to say why you'd be good for that role to make it more personal

You need to alter your CV to suit the job you're applying for.

It needs to be clear, concise and professional.
No picture, no tacky 90s borders or graphics.
Don't include your hobbies.

Sign up to Indeed. It's a job site but you can put in all your details and they create a 'standard' templated CV so all CVs sent through the site to employers look exactly the same.
You can then download it and use that too if you wished, although it might need some modifying depending what software you use.

If anyone has a job paying £700 that you're happy to give an anonymous person on the internet I'd also like to put myself forward for the position Wink

Bear in mind that most interesting positions attract an avalanche of CVs, so that most organisations use some kind of automated selection process to choose a sub-set to be read by a human being.

The trick is to work out what the key words for the position your interested in would be, and make sure your CV contains them all.

In my current field they would be project management, agile , broadcast and perhaps data security.

Yours are bound to be different but you will know the right ones if you think for a moment. Just check what the 'latest' terms are, eg personel became Human Resources and is now called talent management. Make sure you have the up to date terms.

All the very best.
