I stupidly had sex 8 hours after taking the morning after pill and wondering if I need to take another one today or if the pill I took 8 hours before sex is still effective.Blush

Thank you.

If you can’t get a GP appointment, walk in centres and urgent care provide emergency contraception as do GUM clinics.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 06/01/2020 11:38

Have you never heard of condoms??

Women like you really do make the rest of us look sodding stupid, it’s not hard to protect yourself. Babies are made by unprotected sex, which you as an adult to have despite not wanting a baby Confused As a woman it’s your responsibility to make sure protection is used if you don’t want a baby

Speak to the pharmacist about taking yet another MAP today 🙄 then for Christ sake sort out some permanent contraception

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/01/2020 11:46

I think deep down albeit subconsciously you do want a baby or you wouldn't be taking what 2 risks in just a few days. After all, we're living in the 21st not the medieval period.

I had this issue a few years ago. When i went to the pharmacy to ask for the map the second time (different pharmacy but obvs told them i had already had one that cycle), he was really horrible, refused to give me one and told me i would just need to 'wait and see' went straight to a secual health clinic who gave me the map and an appointment for a coil, and couldnt believe how rude the pharmacist was.

I dont think its technically licensed for more than once a month, but you might find that some pharmacists will still give it to you as long as they are happy theres a longer term solution in the pipeline.

tigerwhocametoT · 06/01/2020 15:35

Pharmacist said it's ok to take another MAP. She gave me the same one as yesterday. I was so
Embarrassed but she was really nice and even offered to contact the umbrella clinic and make an appointment for me to get the coil fitted.

I'm glad it's all sorted OP!

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 06/01/2020 15:57

Were you enthusiastic about having sex, or was it something you went along with?

Did your sexual partner know you'd had to take the morning-after-pill within the last 12 hours?

tigerwhocametoT · 06/01/2020 16:19

@JamieVardysHavingAParty yes I was, it was not forced or anything. He's convinced the one I took yesterday is it's effective and that I'm panicking for no reason.

Does he normally have quite a casual attitude to contraception, then?

Did either of you suggest using a condom?

Pinkbonbon · 06/01/2020 17:47

Well he was 'convinced' wrong. I'd be a bit slower to sleep with someone who gives that little of a shit tbh.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 06/01/2020 18:18

Can't say I disagree.

tigerwhocametoT

I appreciate this thread may not be what you're expecting. I don't want you to justify your relationship to me, but I do want you to give the present situation a look-over.

For example, he's convinced the previous dose was sufficient. Can he explain in 100 words or less how the morning-after-pill works, without google? Can he name the active ingredient of what you took and say under what circumstances it is most effective at preventing pregnancy, and under which ones it is most likely to fail?

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 06/01/2020 18:20

If he can't do any of those things, why does he think his opinion is worth more than the pharmacist's?

JustASmallTownCurl · 06/01/2020 19:10

A quick google would show him that what he thought is wrong. Is he not capable of even doing that?

Are you going to consider some other forms of contraception OP, to prevent this from happening again?

Your GP will talk you through all options I'm sure so you can see what works for you.

tigerwhocametoT · 06/01/2020 20:02

Yes I've decided I will get the copper coil, hopefully i will have any problems with it. Pharmacist was saying if it's fitted probably I shouldn't have any problems apart from little cramping.

OP posts:
Stressedoutaboutinlaws · 09/01/2020 20:08

I have a copper coil (actualy on my second now!) And i get on really well with it!

Had a bit of cramping on fitting, but my periods have stayed exactly the same, no heavier or lighter.
