Coloured ceiling... yay or nay?

Redoing my very small bathroom. Largely being panelled in a sand colour, but the one remaining wall, plus the bit around the door, is being painted in a light duck egg blue. Don’t really want to buy a tin of white just for a 6x6 ceiling, but is it a big no no to paint the ceiling in the same colour as the wall? I’ve only ever seen white ceilings so I can’t picture it really! Then again, I guess there’s only me and ds that will ever have to look at it, so what does it matter?!

Has anyone done this? Thanks :)

Definitely nay if it was me, I prefer ceilings white (maybe cream but nothing unnatural) but that said it's only a small bathroom and it's not really going to matter in the grand scheme of things. It'd be different if it was a bigger living space

See, I’ve always been preconditioned to paint a ceiling white but I don’t know whether I prefer that or whether I’ve just not seen anything else! I might have a go before the bathroom gets ripped out and see what I think, it can always be changed!

Do it! It's a bathroom, only you are going to see it anyway. Actually I think it'll pull the whole room together and will probably look really good.

Many years ago I got a decorator in to paint a few rooms. He suggested painting the ceilings a much paler shade of what we had on the walls, and painting the coving white. It actually looked really good & we were pleased with the result.

I would have a go! If you really hate it, it's an easy fix and tbh like you said only you and DS will see it.

Yeah nobody else ever uses it, visitors get sent to the downstairs loo (which is Harry Potter themed Grin ). I think I’ll have a go. Saves me £20 on a tin of white paint, which in the context of a new bathroom is a drop in the ocean, but I’m tight Grin

Just for context, this is the Showerwall I’m using on majority of the room, and then the paint colour I’m looking at:

Nay

It can work well in a small room to make it seem bigger.

I’m concerned that you’re planning on using chalk paint in a small wet room though? So use something designed for a room that gets damp. The landlord of my rental didn’t bother and despite opening windows there’s a visible ‘drip’ all round the top of the walls and a sticky substance has come out of the paint. It looks horrendous as the paint simply isn’t designed to cope with that much moisture.

My DD has white walls and a blue ceiling in her bedroom,it looks great. In our hall I have pained the wall surrounding the door and ceiling yellow and the walls white to make the hall look a bit wider.
I would also be using a paint for bathrooms/kitchens though in a small shower area.

Back in the 90s everywhere had a coloured ceiling and neutral/white walls. I still quite like it. In a bathroom why not?

PurpleDaisies · 06/01/2020 04:17

No way.

LauraPalmersBodybag the chalk wall paint is washable/scrubbable. They advertise it as suitable for kitchens and bathrooms :)

Hmm, a good mix of yes and no!
