I've always used slow cooker / nutri bullet but the latter needs replacing now so I'm thinking of making my morning routine easier by having soup good to go for lunches.

My wish list is:-

  1. Looks good enough to be left out on worktop
  1. Powerful motor, at least 500w
  1. Great capacity pref 1.5l or more
  1. None stick (so many reviews complain they are not even when profess to be) and self cleaning

So far I am liking this one which is about £90 on Amazon and about £140 in Lakeland and John Lewis where I would really like to buy from.

Cuisinart SSB3U Soup Maker Plus, Silver

Any thoughts?

My thoughts are very simple indeed. You really don't need to invest in a soup maker, all you need is a large saucepan and a cheap-as-chips stick blender. That's it. I make soup every week using this method. Don't waste your money on something so completely unnecessary.

Actually I've just looked at a YouTube video and seen there are so many steps involved!!

First saute, adding different ingredients at different times and you need to be there to pulse, then boil, then simmer, then blend!

I had assumed you chocked everything in and ended up with soup after half an hour!

I'm thinking my previous method of making in pan / slow cooker hen transferring to nitribullet is more effective!

What is the point?

Ha ha Drama, cross post.

Yes I have resisted buying one for years as I have great means to make them.

I had assumed they did everything once you there in the ingredients.

They seem a bit pointless if you have to intervene.

Can anybody explain why anyone would want one? I'm really surprised at how little value / time saving they add now I've really looked into them!

Invest in a stick blender. No need transfer to blitz, just do it right there in the pot.

Toomanygerbils · 05/01/2020 04:31

I have a Morphy Richards one. Isn’t expensive but does an amazing job

Toomanygerbils · 05/01/2020 04:33

And nope you stick everything in it uncooked and it does everything

Hi I have the Cuisinart SSB3U Soup Maker Plus, Silver

It's fantastic
I did lots of research before buying and it's been ( after 2-3 years ) a truly fab soup maker
Yes I'm sure you can sauté etc etc but I do just chop and bung into the soup maker switch on and let it run , soup made in around 20-25 mins

I was a frequent soup maker using a saucepan before I bought this but since getting the soup maker have not used the saucepan for making it at all

Great for making stock and risotto too

Shoeshelpplease · 05/01/2020 04:41

Sipping, that's the one I was looking at but it does look like a faff!

Can you just Chuck all in and end up with blended soup without any intervention?

Also can you make risotto without intervention?

Well after the soup has finished cooking to turn on the blender bit but it's only pushing a button , not sure if it's programmable but I'm useless at reading the instructions so don't know it it is or not , I just press the blend button if I want smooth or pulse a couple of times if I want less smith , not at all if I wanted chunky - if that makes sense - it takes seconds
The risotto is much the same as soup without blending
I also turn on the stir for both as I think it makes for a better product , again it's only a push of a button as I'm passing , it turns itself off again.

FairyJuice · 05/01/2020 05:19

I have the Morphy Richards sautee one and find it great, once the veg are sauteed off, you just select whether you want your soup chunky or smooth, press a button and 20-28 minutes later you have blended soup Grin

FairyJuice · 05/01/2020 05:20

I've not used it for risotto though

HoppingPavlova · 05/01/2020 05:28

I just use the slow cooker the night before. If things need to be pulverised then in the morning I just use a potato masher, good stir then leave it to finish on heat for an hour. Or if something with stock bones, remove the bones an hour before it comes off, stir and leave to heat for the last hour.

The other way I’ve done it is to use a Thermomix, generally only takes 25/30mins but you have to faff around with heating, adding different components in the first 5/10mins and I prefer the flavours produced by slow cooking soups.

Ariaty · 05/01/2020 11:23

We have the Morphy Richards sauté one and it's great and no sticking problems. I would recommend getting the insurance though as our first one broke just out of guarantee.

Once it had broken I got a stick blender with good intentions but never really got around to using it. You need to get whatever works for you and you know you will use.

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 05/01/2020 11:42

I had the morphy Richard soup maker. The first one broke, so did the second. My mum had the same problem as well. I bought an instant pot, much better.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 05/01/2020 12:47

We have the Morphy Richards one.
Just bung everything in and voila, soup - smooth or chunky, whichever you choose - in not much time at all. I like it because I can leave it to get on with it while doing bedtime etc with DD.

NanTheWiser · 05/01/2020 13:09

Another Morphy Richards sauté user here. Had it about 3 years, so easy!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 05/01/2020 13:11

I have a saucepan.
