Combination feeding?

I have a 2 week old and she seems to be hungry all the time. She is on breast for around an hour when I feed her and even after that she still seems to be looking for more. My midwife told me to make sure I eat so the milk can be “fat” enough for her, I’m working on that but honestly my appetite is gone and I’m very tired to stay at night for an hour straight to breastfeed, so today I bought formula. I don’t want to give up on breastfeeding so I want to mix them and pump so I don’t lose the milk, anyone done that? I feel guilty and I want what’s best for her but I honestly feel like I can’t keep having 4 hours of sleep out of 24, she wakes up every hour during the night and early mornings are the worst cause she wants to stay on breast for 5 hours if possible.

How can I do it without affecting her? People really created a bad image of formula in my head so now I’m very scared and I’m not sure how I can mix both. Any advice?

Congratulations on your new baby!

I had exactly the same with my now 10 week old and had same feelings and thoughts even buying the formula! He never seemed satisfied and it was so disheartening that I questioned everything from what I was eating and drinking to feeling like failing as a Mam as I didn’t think the quality was good enough for him. Turns out it’s simply part of the breastfeeding and establishing your supply to meet their constant growth spurts. Reality is, they actually are so hungry!
I was exhausted and struggled a lot so we ended up trying a couple of times mixing a bottle of breast milk and formula. There’s little information to be found but it is absolutely do-able. Try looking on kellymoms. This unfortunately for us resulted in a lot of trapped wind and constipation to which I decided there and then the pain my baby was in compared to me getting an extra hours rest wasn’t worth it. Chucked the formula, stuck with it and now feeds like a dream.
It gets better and everyone will continuously tell you that, I understand you going through it now it’s hard to see and I truly get it’s the absolute pits but trust me it is worth it.
On the flip side, formula isn’t poison, it still ensures your baby is fed and whatever works best for you and baby is up to you and nobody else!

Sorry for the long reply I just feel quite passionate about this as I struggled tremendously however really am now seeing the benefits.

Good luck in whichever route you find
