When is the best time to see snow in Scotland?

Looking at either going around the 16th January or 5th February. Flying into Inverness is about as far as I’ve got. We’re not looking to ski but hire a car and drive around manitou see the scenery. Any dates better/any chance of getting around if we can’t ski? Is there any set up better for access etc?

Anyone got any recommendations of any nice hotels with a view/airBnB or holiday home? Looking for somewhere without beams/thick hanging drapes and carpets (dust mite allergy) so somewhere more modern.

Inverness tends to avoid the snow l, we drove through last year in heavy snow (awful drive). We marvelled are the fact that Inverness wasn’t snowy and the hotel staff said that the actual town doesn’t get snow often at all.

February is snow time in North of Scotland.

I would look to stay in or around aviemore as it can get snowy there. And even if there isn’t snow at ground level you can get the funicular railway up the Cairngorms to see some snow. You can follow the Cairngorm Mountain page on Facebook and they post weather updates/photos etc.

Unfortunately the funicular isnt operational at the moment but aviemore and cairgorms is definitely the best area to go.

I agree that February even early March is when we get the most snow. It's been fairly mild here the last few weeks.

Morgan12 · 05/01/2020 09:28

February and March usually.

And last year it was beer garden weather for April 😁

We usually go up in middle of February and stay near Blairgowrie and ski at Glenshee. Last year was the first year in 5 that we didn't have snow but we are going back up again this year

We usually go for Feb half term and stay near Aviemore. We’ve always had some snow. The lochs are stunning in the winter!

I didn’t realise that @helpfulperson and I am on their Facebook page too! We were thinking about heading up that way next month too so will have to manage DDs expectations!
