Does anyone know anything about podiatry?

I need someone to sort my feet, but I don’t know if podiatry is the answer. I’ve seen an osteopath who says my tight feet, specifically my arches, are what are causing my calves to hurt and cramp. I also have a damaged/weak tendon in my ankle. I can’t run any more 😞 and I’m now at the point where my feet constantly feel slightly bruised.

So, what kind of medical person do I need to help me sort this out?

I went to a podiatrist at a clinic at the recommendation of my GP, having painful ankles and feet. Also had a long history of back pain and knee pain following separate injuries and the onset of arthritis. Had a ‘gait analysis’ and custom orthotic insoles which did make a difference, especially to the ankle and knee pain. That was some years ago and I’ve now gone back with a different issue, but so far, the new insoles have not had the same ‘magic’ results the first ones did, though it is still early days. Expensive though, as it’s private not NHS.

You might be better off seeing a physiotherapist. They can do things to strengthen your calves and feet.

In my experience, orthotics are more trouble than they're worth. They're never quite right, they always need adjusting and it's a waste of money. I ended up ditching them and seeing a physio instead, who did a load of treatment and gave me exercises to sort the problem out. It's a much better way.

A physiotherapist. I've been to a private one who specialises in foot problems. I needed custom made orthotic insoles which sorted my issues quickly and completely. I haven't found the orthotics a waste of money, quite the opposite in fact. I think either a physiotherapist or a podiatrist would be better than an osteopath at sorting out your feet.
