Job hunting is soul destroying isn't it?

Feeling a bit downtrodden. I've been looking for a new job for months and had zero luck so far.

I'm currently working part time and will have to stay part time until September when DD gets her 30 hours funding. I'm desperate to go full time, and that's what all the good jobs want, but I just can't afford the 1k/month childcare cost.

I can't stand my current job, it's a tough job at the best of times and the company I work for are awful.

I'm retraining in HR, doing my CIPD level 3 online, so I'm moving forward but I need a job that supports what I'm learning.

Not really sure what I want from this. Just a moan probably. I have a degree, I've worked my whole life, and yet I seem to be unemployable Sad

I feel the same. I'm really unhappy in my job but actually like the organisation I work in so ideally I would like to stay there but new roles seem to never come up - I have been looking for the last couple of years and had one interview - which I didn't get. I also look outside of the organisation but no luck there either. I feel like you - I have a degree, I work hard but I'm trapped in a job I don't like and it seems to be impossible to find another one! xx

You are right, job hunting sucks. However, try to spin it. You are currently employed which is a much better position to be job hunting from than unemployed.

What fields are you applying in and how far are you getting in general? Have you a LinkedIn Account?

I'm applying for admin/HR admin jobs to get the experience alongside my qualification.

My background is copywriting, marketing, social media etc. And I ran my own business in that field for 6 years.

I've had two interviews in the who knows how many jobs I've applied for.

It's demoralising knowing I could do all of the jobs I'm applying for but not even getting to the interview stage.

I've recently completely overhauled my CV, cover letter and LinkedIn page but still no luck.

Everyone applies for admin jobs as it’s a job that most people can do quite well and doesn’t really require any qualifications.

Hopefully when you have your CIPD you will be able to get HR jobs.

It is horrible. I was unemployed for a year and applied for at least 3 jobs every day with no luck. I'm now working in retail which I hate but sticking with it as pregnant. Will be applying for new jobs once on maternity leave but it is destroying when you don't even hear back.
Keep going and hopefully you'll win through in the end.

MushroomTree · 04/01/2020 15:33

@PlomBear that's what I'm hoping but I'm getting worried that without the relevant experience my CIPD is going to be an expensive waste of time.

@Rosebel even a "thanks, but no thanks" would be nice but so many you don't hear back from at all.

I had an interview the week before Christmas, heard nothing back. I thought I interviewed really well and followed up with a thank you email, but nothing.

It wouldn't be so bad but my current job is very emotionally draining and there's only so long I can hold on. I've been close to being signed off a few times but carried on because I don't want it on my record.
