Have you ever met or had any scary encounters with a notorious criminal...

I am fascinated by true crime, particularly the behaviours shown and also how the investigations unfold into catching them...

I’m also a big fan of NM’s WOO/scary/creepy threads and thought I’d tie the two together and ask for your scary/near miss encounters with any evil and notorious criminals.

I actually don’t have any of my own other than my dad being involved in the investigation/operation that led to the arrest a well known Scottish peadophile, it was all very dramatic with the raid team (dad included) gaining access to his property in the back of a RM van...

Does anyone have anymore?

I'm a forensic nurse working in a high secure forensic facility. So yes, it's a daily occurrence.

itcamefrombeckyvardysaccount · 05/01/2020 20:15

My dad did some work in the house of Brian Blackwell for his parents. He murdered them a few days later by stabbing them and beating them with a claw hammer then took his girlfriend who had no idea on holiday. My dad said he thought he was weird when he was working there.

Patroclus · 05/01/2020 20:28

Maxine Carr has a totally different identity now, including appearrance so it probably isnt her, Camela

itsgettingweird · 05/01/2020 20:33

That's interesting about protecting their turf from police. Well not interesting but actually rather more terrifying. Shows a higher level of calculation.

Like I said above the murderer I knew was a lifeguard with me.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 05/01/2020 20:47

I went all the way from reception class to Y11 with a classmate who ended up murdering his girlfriend’s baby. He was a stone cold psycho: we were all terrified of him.

bettybattenburg · 05/01/2020 20:49

Maxine Carr gets the same bus as my mum every week

I thought she had a new identity but even if not surely she's changed her appearance so as not to be recognised?

One of the teachers at my brother's junior school was recently found guilty of abusing boys in his care. I wish I could say it came as a complete shock but it didn't. God knows why my parents agreed to let DB board there when he was 11. My mum went to see him every morning before school started, I thought it was overprotective mum stuff but maybe she had an inkling.

Luckily my brother hated the man and wasn't part of his group of 'favourites' and neither were any of his friends. I feel for the ones who were though - one in particular was rather troubled in his teens and early twenties Sad

My dad was followed home one night from the galtymore ( a famous Irish dancehall) this man kept inviting him to have a coffee in his flat. My grandad (mums dad) was across the road and called him over. He said to him be careful that fella is a weird. They lived on Melrose Avenue and years later my dad saw him in the paper. It was Nielsen

Sleepycat91 · 05/01/2020 21:01

I used to go to army cadets with Nathan Matthews who killed Becky Watts. Once he was arrested i said it would be something sexually linked as he had a fondness for girls 5 or so years younger than him at 18 but overall was pretty friendly and i got on well with him.

ALemonyPea · 05/01/2020 21:06

My son went to a new sports club, gave up after a few months before they started going away for competitions. A year later, the instructor was convicted of horrific paedophile acts against a boy with learning difficulties who went to the club. Felt sick for weeks when I heard about that.

bingandflop · 05/01/2020 21:23

My dad knew Ronnie Biggs

newyeardelurker · 05/01/2020 21:25

I think John Worboys offered me a free cab ride home once. I didn't get in, thankfully I wasn't far from home. Location makes sense, and DP remembers me saying there was a weird cab driver trying to pick me up.

BeyondFlubeInclusionaryRF · 05/01/2020 21:25

When I was in high school there was a boy who was obsessed with me, would follow me around and spread lies about me and him being an item. Not the "usual" irritating, childish or even physically intimidating behaviour teen boys can tend towards, but he was seriously creepy.

Fast forward a few years and he is dating a friend of my sister. Who he then murdered in a rather ott manner. To be deliberately vague.

Namethecat · 05/01/2020 21:28

Yes another prison service member of staff here . Have met the whole gamut .
Plus a few from the celebrity world ( not killers !)

Alyic · 05/01/2020 21:56

Place marking I love threads like this

augustusglupe · 05/01/2020 22:56

Dad knew a rather infamous northern businessman/gangster, they were each other’s best man. I met him a few times as a kid, he was charming and charismatic (well to us anyway)

My mum was a teen in Leeds during the yorkshire rippers reign.

Not long after the tape was sent in to the police with the geordie accent she was walking home through headingley (there had already been a killing in that exact area) when she was followed slowly by a car. She kept walking faster and the car sped up. The car pulled up next to her and the guy asked if she wanted a life in a geordie accent. She was absolutely terrified and ran to a group of people nearby.

Of course we know now that was a hoax accent but it still terrified the life out of her.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 06/01/2020 00:21

I used to go to dancing classes with the guy who shot the dog in the Jeremy Thorpe scandal. Also rumours he killed his wife. He was supposed to have died before I knew him but a lot of people knew who he was. Always wore shorts, no matter what the weather was.

chesterfuckingdrorrs · 06/01/2020 01:01

Ive met a few thanks to work. I "met" Peter Tobin in a work capacity and even though I was completely safe and he was in his wheelchair being escorted by big guys, he still scared the shit out of me!
He was without doubt the creepiest/scariest person I've ever come across.

raspberryk · 06/01/2020 02:00

Most recently I met a recently released locally well known murderer who happily told me about his crime, no remorse. Very chilling. I wondered if he was on the wind up but I researched it and Facebook stalked him and it was him. He was scary.

I have met and drunk in the establishment of some locally well known mobster brothers (through mutual friends). Didn't like them at all.

I have lived next door to local town "mafia" and never had better, more caring neighbours - as we were on the right side of them. Loveliest family, just don't ask any questions Grin. Not scary to me in the slightest.

No one famous or notorious as far as I know, however as a friend of mine worked unknowingly with Jon Venables you really never know who you're sitting next to.

SanAntonio · 06/01/2020 02:02

Used to work with Maxine Carr and Ian Huntley. They were a nice quiet couple.

My BIL worked with Ian Huntley and that isn't what he says!

Loveablers · 06/01/2020 04:49

I don’t understand why you’d post about someone famous but not mention names? Hmm

Rowgtfc72 · 06/01/2020 06:19

SanAntonio
When I worked with them I dont think they'd been together long. He was quite upset one day because an ex girlfriend had accused him of rape. We had to calm him down.

QueenofPain · 06/01/2020 06:42

I worked in an A&E that was the nearest one to both a prison and a high secure mental hospital - so we would have their patients whenever they were sick. Met some interesting characters from the MH unit, but unable to mention any names, obviously.
