Son is currently 7 years old and 127cm. He is in a high backed booster seat. When he's 135cm does he go into a booster seat or no cat. Seat at all? Is he still supposed to be in a high backed booster seat.
Ive tried to get my answer from the gov website but my brain us not getting it?!

British law is no seat required after 135cm. However it doesn't mean it's safe. My DD is taller than that and without a booster cushion or HBB the seatbelt would be across her face.

Thanks around so can he be in a booster seat now or still his high backed chair?

By law he no longer needs any car seat or booster beyond 135cm however I've kept all of mine in their hbb until they physically outgrew them or started secondary school, whichever came 1st.

It depends on the build of your child and the car, as pp says, where does the seatbelt sit on your DC?. My nearly 11yr old is about 136/7cm so does not legally need any car seat but she is still in her full car seat as if she just uses a seat belt, it is far too high up her face.

There's info here - www.which.co.uk/reviews/child-car-seats/article/booster-seats-are-you-breaking-the-law

Summary;

Child must use a car seat until 135cm
Some booster cushions can be used from 15kg
Some booster cushions can be used from 22kg and 125cm

However, high back boosters are far far safer than cushions, because the have side impact protection for the head and torso.

Now he can use a hbb or booster seats but I'd always choose the hbb if it's available as they are safer. Mine occasionally use booster seats in other people's cars as it's easier than moving the isofix hbb. But for long journeys and in our car it's always hbb. They are usually more comfy too.

To answer your direct question, if he is 127cm, then there may be booster cushions he could use, depending on his weight and the limitations of the booster cushion.

But he'd be far far safer remaining in his high backed booster.
