How can I listen to music from my phone while running...

sootynsweep · 04/01/2020 12:29

.... without Apple Music? I currently pay £14.99 a month to Apple Music and have a couple of playlists that I listen to a lot while running. I could really do with saving a few quid but obviously once I cancel my subscription the music will disappear off my phone. Is there a cheaper alternative does anyone know?

Amazon music are doing 4 months trial for 99p for new users or spotify with ads is free we pay £14.99 for a family premium member so an individual one will be cheaper than that

MrsPatterson2014 · 04/01/2020 12:35

Amazon Prime. 7.99 - music for Alexa and phone and deliveries.

inwood · 04/01/2020 12:37

I have Amazon music on my phone for 9.99. Amazon prime has a restricted library.

Spotify?

BloodyCats · 04/01/2020 12:41

Spotify. You can get it for free but you only get to skip 6 songs per hour and occasionally have to listen to a 30 second advert.

DianaT1969 · 04/01/2020 12:50

Spotify adverts are designed to torture you. They jump in much louder than the music, a bit like TV ads - very repetitive and deliberately irritating. I'm surprised any companies advertise on them - it's the case study for negative branding. Not surprisingly designed to make you upgrade to the paid version. They should use them in terrorist interrogations.
But if you are only running an hour, or so at a time, perhaps you can cope.

Afonavon · 04/01/2020 12:59

Would purchasing the individual tracks you like work out cheaper for you in the long run? I hate not owning the music I like and even prefer to buy CDs then digitise them, just so as not to be at the mercy of expensive streaming companies.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 04/01/2020 13:07

Set up a YouTube channel and pick the songs you like and make a playlist

I used to do this before using Spotify and there were not too many adverts (that might have changed)

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 04/01/2020 13:08

YouTube account not channel

walkingintherain23 · 04/01/2020 13:09

BBC sounds app

Didntwanttochangemyname · 04/01/2020 13:10

Do it the old fashioned way, put all your cds on your computer, plug your phone in to your computer and transfer the music files on to your phone.

thedevilinablackdress · 04/01/2020 13:12

This is why I have an Android. Ripped all my CDs and stored on an SD card on my phone.
I appreciate that this a)not entirely helpful for iPhone users b) possibly makes me a bit of a luddite

User12879923378 · 04/01/2020 13:16

Google Play Music is £10 a month and has everything I want to listen to on it.

Jocasta2018 · 04/01/2020 13:19

I've got an iPhone. I digitize my CDs using the ITunes App on my PC (not a Mac) then sync them across to my iPhone. I do buy individual tracks from iTunes but I buy a massive amount of CDs as I love having them!

ExpletiveDelighted · 04/01/2020 13:23

I've got an Iphone with all my CDs ripped onto Itunes and onto my phone, not sure why an Android would be any better.

UhKevin · 04/01/2020 13:37

Certain Vodafone tariffs (including some SIM only ones) include Spotify Premium for free. Would that be an option?

needanewnamechange · 04/01/2020 13:47

My dh has several thousand songs on his computer ( he's a DJ ) when I want a playlist he puts the songs on my phone . It would probably be quite time consuming for someone to put all your cds on computer but it's his hobby and he enjoys it .

Glittertwins · 04/01/2020 14:08

As above, either rip my CDs onto PC via iTunes or buy the albums from Apple via PC /iTunes. Then create playlist and sync to my phone. No need for streaming

sootynsweep · 04/01/2020 14:09

Thanks all. I haven't got any CDs any more. With Amazon then can I actually create playlists on my phone?

adaline · 04/01/2020 14:14

Spotify - £10 per month and you can download to your phone.

Ciwirocks · 04/01/2020 14:17

Yes you can create playlists on your phone with amazon. That’s all I use, it does have a very extensive catalogue

sootynsweep · 04/01/2020 14:37

Right I will look into Spotify and Amazon thanks everyone x

I have Apple now, but before that I used to make up YouTube playlists for free. Obviously this uses more data, so only the solution if you have a good allowance.

Cherrysoup · 04/01/2020 15:01

I got Spotify free through my Vodafone contract. Worth seeing if your provider offers anything similar. I understand Amazon music is limited compared to Spotify, but I haven’t looked into this.
