Horrible Histories party

My DD7 is obsessed with HH, especially Egyptians. It's her birthday in a couple of months and I'm interested in how I might go about arranging a Horrible Histories party if anyone has done one?

Try looking on Pinterest. They’re usually very good for things like this.

No ideas but 1. What a brilliant theme and 2. Can I come?

Sounds brilliant.

You can get old coins and imperfect fossils online quite cheaply. Maybe base an activity around these?

That's a brilliant theme, and my DD (who also loves HH and the Egyptians) would be well up for this when she turns 7 this year! I actually made her a version of this mummy cake last year, which she was very pleased with. We also looked at using self-assembly pyramid boxes (like these ones as gift bags but didn't go with it in the end.

You could probably do some related craft activities - I've just looked online and have seen pectoral collars made from paper plates, cartouches made from salt dough (which the children could paint with their own names in hieroglyphics) and paper headdresses! My DCs also enjoy any activity that involves decorating cakes or biscuits, so perhaps you could make some biscuits to decorate?

Just remembered that a friend had a Halloween party last year where all the kids "mummified" each other with loo roll - at the time I was a bit Hmm about the waste, but you could consider doing this if you're less uptight than I am? The children at my friend's party certainly seemed to be having a whale of a time!

For an activity, they could do one of those fossil mining kits each, where you chisel away a block to find gems etc.

Something like this:

I think you could do a version of the 'rolling a dice and eating chocolate with a knife and fork' game that involves dressing yourself up as a mummy then using a hook to fish a strawberry lace / intestine out of a 'canopic jar'

MoreHairyThanScary · 04/01/2020 13:26

What about the gory games for some party ideas? You could make some year spheres to win?

KindergartenKop · 04/01/2020 17:13

Give them really crap ww2 style food for tea and tell them to be grateful for it!

CalamityJ · 04/01/2020 19:31

Those are fantastic ideas! Except the crap ww2 food but I also secretly love the idea of actually doing it!

The mummy cake and mummy games are genius as she loves mummies. Love the strawberry laces idea too.

Metheven just bring toilet roll!

You could do a T/F quiz.
Act out a Stupid Death
Figure out a code in hieroglyphs

Hi, we did one last year. Dd 8 and Ds 6. We asked the kids to dress up, got a selection of pirates, princesses and historical costumes.

We gave out HH books instead of favours, you can get the boxes with 20 books in quite cheaply.

I just did normal food but put jelly eyeballs on some of the cup cakes.

If you live anywhere Scotland then the Perth Executioner is amazing. He and his victim do a family torture show, then later he dressed up as a grave digger and told ghost stories. You can find him at horror and history tours in Perth. They are willing to travel a bit for some extra expenses.

Ds also insisted on a dead rat piniata so I made one out of card and tissue paper. I also made an eyeball one as I had 40 kids.

I decorated the hall with medieval party decorations off amazon and used some pirate and princess plates.

We played corners but used HH themes, rotten Roman's ect. Also played a game where I yelled out stuff and they had to do the actions. March for Roman's, row a boat for Vikings, lie on the floor for black death.

I got a couple of toy rats instead of pass the parcel and threw sweets at them.

All in all it was a great party and the kids loved the theme. Good luck.

Watch 'supersizers do ww2' on YouTube for food inspiration.
