To ask your experiences with the depo injection

So I got the depo shot at the end of December 2018, I bled on and off till the end off March. I then didn't have any bleeding till the middle of June and July. I then had no bleeding again at all until the end of November. But at the beginning of October I started having really bad and painful period pains and it lasted two weeks, just no bleeding.

Went and saw the nurse who gives me the shot who said to see the GP. Pains had stopped by the appointment but she said to have my bloods done. Had bloods done and something was slightly raised but they weren't concerned at all. Got my next injection in November and since then I've bled 4 times and I'm getting period type pains a lot. One of the times I bled was after sex and it lasted two days but the night before I'd been in agony with really bad cramps and was expecting to come on.

Has any one else experienced this whilst on the depo? I've booked in to see the GP next week. But worrying my self now that I should of maybe gone back sooner. Due a smear in April and last one was low grade cell changes but NO hpv.

I was on the depo for years without any of these symptoms but I didn't realise at the time that the weight gain and poor mental health I was having at the time was probably caused or at least exacerbated by the depo flooding my system with unnatural levels of hormones. eventually I was told I had to choose a new method of contraception because being on depo too long starts increasing osteoporosis risk too much. I switched to a Mirena coil and that was so much better and I wish I had made the switch sooner (it was only apathy stopping me from wanting to think about it for years) - Mirena is a much lower hormone dose as it is delivered direct into the womb rather than needing to flood your entire body with the hormone to be sure that enough of it reaches the reproductive parts.

@ElluesPichulobu thanks for the reply. I am thinking of changing. Pill doesn't doesn't work for me so I think the coil is my only option left. The Gp I saw first did say it's probably the depo causing pains. But they are getting worse so I have booked another GP appointment for later in the week. Praying it's nothing serious xx
