Just that really. He’s on original but has zero contact now.

Plus he wouldn’t allow it.

You can put his name on it but you dont need his signature or permission or anything else. You just need new photos (can be done online during the application) and a countersignature (can also be sorted out online if doing an online application)

I got told no, but actually yes. Its very tricky. You can call the passport office for advice, explain your situation. They ask for the father’s passport details.

If you have a court order saying you don’t need father’s details it would help. Thankfully the hate between me and ex is at such a level I was able to get his details for the form.

I'm pretty sure a friend did this recently. Her ex wouldn't sign because she had got a new dp.
She rang the passport office who told her to write a letter explaining that he wasn't in the picture anymore. It all went through ok. It must be quite common. However I'm pretty sure she had to get something from solicitors or court to actually go away though as the dc have ex's surname.

You dont need anything more than his basic details. Only 1 persons details is required to do the renewal and that would be you. In the notes bit you can just put that you dont have details of his passport number.

I renewed my childs no problem. Didn't need his permission just his name I think. Anyway I filled the form online, certainly didn't need his signature.

Yes, in theory you need to get his permission before taking your child abroad (if he is on the birth certificate and has parental responsibility) unless you have a court order/child arrangement order saying they live with you

Foxton20 · 03/01/2020 20:54

I’m not on about going abroad, more about just renewing their passports. We aren’t travelling for a year or so, just wanted to get them done.

And as I said you dont need him to sign anything and you should put his basic details on the application

Aragog · 03/01/2020 20:57

If you go on the online application it should tell you what details you need. Do you need his passport number for example?

dementedpixie · 03/01/2020 21:01

Not necessarily if she provides her own passport number.

Greendayz · 03/01/2020 21:18

You definitely don't. I contacted them to ask and they said it was fine just to put mine. (Ex and I get in fine but he wasn't around and I needed to sort it out urgently)

The only time you'd need his is if it's you're child's first passport and you're relying on his nationality for your child to be eligible for the passport (eg he's British but you're not)

No, I put him on dd1's first but not on the renewal and never on dd2's , mine was a bit more complicated too as 1st passports applied for from abroad and both second from uk. DC do not have British birth certificates or my surname
