Over cautious or sensible? You decide..

Sorry, I'm on my own and can't decide what's best!Grin

Went for a run this morning and was jumped at by a 'friendly' staffy.

He managed to jump at me twice, scratching both thighs and making a significant cut and bruise on my forearm through 2 layers of clothing. (God alone knows what it would have done jumping at a small child, but that's for another thread..)

Anyway, I've phoned the doctors to check my tetanus status and the last one I had was 1988! Obviously they booked me in for one, on Wednesday next week, however i have an autoimmune condition, which I probably should have mentioned to her, but I just didn't.

Here's a picture of first thing this morning and just now.

So the question is, do you think I'll be fine to wait or given that I have got a knackered immune system, should I go to the walk in? It's quite sore still.

Over cautious or sensible? You decide..

I would ring them back and mention the immune system, as I would have thought that made an infection more likely.

ScreamingValalalalahLalalalah · 03/01/2020 17:17

I would err on the safe side given your condition.

Zaphodsotherhead · 03/01/2020 17:19

You should be fine tetanus wise, as that prefers puncture wounds, but you may need some antibiotics just in case of infection.

Lol! The receptionist just called me! She's obviously read my notes and suggested that given the length of time it's been since a shot and that I have autoimmune disease, go to the walk in clinic.

Marvellous. Happy Friday night! Grin

Thanks all!

Get thee to the walk-in clinic OP Grin Hope there is not too long a wait! Nice to hear that the surgery followed up on your call.

ScreamingValalalalahLalalalah · 03/01/2020 17:34

Yes, what good service from your surgery. Hope everything's OK.

MaureenMLove · 03/01/2020 18:24

No long wait! I'm home again! I do only live 5 mins from urgent care unit and unknown to me it's closed until 6pm for a couple of weeks. So I was front of the queue, straight in, triaged. Jabbed, orange arm from iodine wash and £9 lighter for a script!

Now then, where was I, oh yes, Friday night, time for wine! Grin

Are you in Eire op?

Regardless, wonderful healthcare!

FriedasCarLoad · 03/01/2020 18:53

Do you know who owns the dog? I'm wondering if you should report it. It clearly wasn't under control and, as you said, it doesn't bear thinking about how that could injure a small child.

Glad you're being well cared for!

UhKevin · 03/01/2020 18:54

She’s not in Eire if she’s paying £9 for a script. Glad you got sorted quickly, OP! Wine What did the owner or walker of the Staffy have to say?

MaureenMLove · 03/01/2020 19:05

I'm in South London/Kent. (Very telling location, as there's only one place it could be really!).

I really didn't realise it was a bite tbh. He jumped at caught both my legs and my arm and given that I was running and I'm usually in pain somewhere on my body, I think I have a high pain threshold. It was also through 2 layers, a hoody and a weatherproof jacket, so didn't think it would even have broken the skin.

The owner just said, 'I'm sorry, he just wants to be friendly' and he put him on his lead. I was mid run and it was a bit of a blur. Makes you wonder though, if he is prone to jumping at runners, why he wasn't on a lead anyway.

It's difficult, because the place I was running is the place to go in the borough for dog walking. It's also where the park run takes place, so it's full of runners.

Are the park's initials N Park @MaureenMLove?

I only ask because I was nipped by an overexcited in there just before Christmas and the owner said it had never done that before! I'd be a bit concerned if it's doing it a lot as there are so many kids in that park.

HowDoIhelp321 · 03/01/2020 20:07

Park with the initial N 😂😂😂
Don't out the park on mn!

MaureenMLove · 03/01/2020 20:10

Grin. No, it's D if you're interested!

Pinkflipflop85 · 03/01/2020 20:14

sockittome123 · 03/01/2020 20:16

Hope MN doesn't take this down for Park Protection purposes Grin

Glad you're okay OP

TFthatsover · 03/01/2020 20:16

I think I know too - you're very local to me OP! 👋🏼

Pinkflipflop85 · 03/01/2020 20:19

And me if I've guessed right...Smile

FrangipaniBlue · 03/01/2020 20:39

I have a bull breed dog who jumps at runners in excitement as he's still only young and that's why he stays on the lead, I move him off the path and keep his attention on me when I see a runner.

But to do that much damage through clothing he'd have to give you a a fair old bite, a lot more than I'd say is friendly!!

MaureenMLove · 03/01/2020 20:45

Damn it, it's Friday night I've had a drink, it's Danson! 🙊 Grin

Sorry re my Eire question (I know prescriptions are more expensive there) - I've just never heard a British person call it a script, but lots of friends/family from Eire call it that.

MaureenMLove · 03/01/2020 21:06

Only reason I called it a script is because it was quicker to type!Grin

Pinkflipflop85 · 03/01/2020 21:30

Yay I was correct!
