Housing advice please

A friend of mine has applied for socialism housing. He has lived where he currently lives for a year however he wants to be housed in the district where he spent most of his life. The policy says people have to live in the same district for two years continuously however when he’s applied it’s come up that his local connection is where he currently lives. Surely he’s not allowed housing there if he’s not lived there two years. He’s concerned he’s going to be put on the housing register for where he currently lives. Any advice much appreciated.

Hi op.
Unfortunately without knowing what area you’re in it’s difficult to advise as each area will have its own allocation policy.
However if you go to the website of the local borough/district council, and look at their social housing which is usually choice based leggings you should find the policy for where they live now and the other area they have connection to.

Lots of places count local connection as having immediate family or having lived six of the last 12 months somewhere, so he may well have local connection to both places.

Thanks for the response. This is the policy living and has lived in a district continuously for at least 2 years immediately preceding the date of the application. If an applicant has lived out of the district for a single period of up to 4 calendar months whilst registered they will retain a local connection. If an applicant has lived outside of the district for a single period exceeding 4 calendar months (or for multiple periods) and the applicant does not meet the Reasonable Preference categories set down in Appendix 3, their housing register application will be cancelled.

There are different policies for different councils so it might be worth checking both.

That policy covers that area of the council as well as the one he currently lives in.
