I am 7 weeks pregnant and I have been eating fairly healthy. I avoided the Brie and pâté at Christmas and now Iv only gone and scoffed two raw oysters with out even Bloody thinking.

Just wondering has anyone eat anything accidentally during pregnancy? Just to settle my mind.

When I was very young and pregnant and naive I was craving smoked Salmon

I don’t know about cream cheese, but smoked salmon is fine to eat when pregnant.

Not 'accidental' but advice when I was expecting was that alcohol was fine 'in moderation' after first trimester. I'm guessing that's no longer the case?

I was pregnant during the advice not to eat nuts. So I avoided them until I noticed that my breakfast cereal had nuts in. Been chomping that down for previous 8 months.
DD loves nuts. No allergies at all.
On the other hand, I've developed a reaction to certain nuts since.

Eat what you like. The guidelines make people far more anxious than necessary. Considering people who have a cryptic pregnancy often report drinking and smoking right up until the birth, I wouldn’t fret

I drank half a glass of red wine with my meal at a wedding which i had allowed myself. But grabbed a flute of champagne also for the toast.... completely forgetting for a moment that I was pregnant! Felt awful . I know that is a sin punishable by death on mn but there you go ..... I didn't drink for the rest of the pregnancy and my midwife reassured me it was ok.
No harm came to ds.

Cheesys and everyone else who commented on the Peanut Butter Cups - advice for at least 10 years was to avoid peanuts. My DC were all born during this time.

I can’t remember exactly what but I remember feeling stressed about it. In hindsight I think it was something small on the scheme of things.

I accidentally went in a hot tub at about 14 weeks. I was on holiday and completely forgot it was a no no. I thought I had hard boiled my baby! He’s now 7 and a normal temperature.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 03/01/2020 14:49

@Aibuornotoop I had a really senior consultant while I was pregnant who told me most of the advice is bollocks, and the only things you really need to avoid are swordfish, shark, tilefish and too much tuna because of the mercury levels. Everything else you need to be more concerned about food origins and food safety ie. Sushi from Nobu - fine. Supermarket sushi that's been in your fridge for 3 days, not fine.

Oh and excessive caffeine and going to Zika areas.

CmdrCressidaDuck · 03/01/2020 14:52

Whatever I bloody wanted, except booze.

There is seriously no need for the level.of anxiety and constraint that women on here seem to regularly get themselves into. Many of the risks people are worrying about are quite literally nonexistent and the rest are miniscule.

cricketmum84 · 03/01/2020 14:52

@Dongdingdong think you took my comment out of context slightly as you have only quoted the smoked salmon bit and not the soft cheese.

Also 16 years ago when I was first pregnant we were told to avoid all raw fish. I know that's been changed now though :)

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 03/01/2020 14:54

Smoked salmon is fine although they do recommend the farmed or previously frozen stuff.

Hard blue cheeses also fine, and cream cheese.

Honeybee85 · 03/01/2020 14:55

Ikea hotdogs!

I love them but since they can contain listeria it’s appearently not wise to eat them.

NeverGotMyPuppy · 03/01/2020 15:03

I wish women wouldn't beat themselves up so much. If unborn babies were as delicate as to be harmed by a mouthful of wine there would be hardly any babies around!
I allowed myself a small glass of wine, once or twice a week, if I fancied it. I measured it at first to see what a small glass was.
I had soft cheese but cooked. I didn't eat swordfish or shark because I've never eaten those things in the UK anyway. I avoided Zika areas. That was it.

OccasionalNachos · 05/01/2020 08:41

I think swordfish is probably what I’m looking forward to the most after the birth, after initially thinking that it would be stinky cheese or a big gin & tonic. There is a great restaurant in my city that does a lovely spicy swordfish steak. Yum. Might need to book something for a few months time...
