Back pain-tens machine?

I have suffered with back ache for a long time but it’s really ramped you over the last few weeks.
At times standing cooking is unbearable and it feels like hot pokers being pushed into my lower back.
I have an appointment but not for another 3 weeks.
Anyway! Has anyone used a tens machine for back pain as I’m considering getting one to keep on top of it until I can see someone, I have googled and they range from £12-over £100.
Are they worth it? Do you get what you pay for?
I would appreciate any feedback and recommendations 😊

Are you talking about muscle spasm here ? If so here’s my experience - I get it when I stand still for any length of time - especially when cooking or at the kitchen sink . Any amount of walking and I’m fine .
I bought a Lidl tens machine which delivers quite a hefty jolt if you turn it up . Enough to take the edge off . Think it cost about £20 . However I’ve hardly used it tbh . I have a bog standard elastic back brace that I use now . Only when I’m stood cooking etc . I used to work in a hospital and many surgeons also used back braces whilst operating .
Strengthening the core does help as strong stomach muscle does support the back . I used to do classes regularly but stopped and it’s become more of an issue since then.
Sometimes only a hot water bottle helps - even painkillers don’t touch it . Only think that works when the pain keeps me awake is diazepam- prescribed as last resort by my GP as it’s side effect is a muscle relaxant .
The above is only on the subject of a muscle spasm. You should get a check to make sure it’s not disc related . Hope you get relief . Flowers

Thank you so much for your help!
Over the counter pain relief isn’t helping so many will look into a tens and back brace until I can see a doctor.
Back pain is horrible isn’t it Flowers

Before losing weight I had back pains that were so bad I'd vomit... I took medication but it just didn't help and tried a Tens machine (got it online) and I loved it... it helped massively and I'd recommend it

Massage may help but you could have a nerve trapped or a herniated disc. A good masseuse or possibly a physio may be able to help.

Have ordered one and asked for recommendations for a local physio.
Thank you all so much x

Yes I rate my TENS machine. It was about £50 from Boots. It has a massage function too. I am not sure how it works but i think it distracts your brain or something.

I have mild CP and use a tens machine They're available in all price brackets but I can recommend the Lloyds mini remote machine £20 from Amazon or Lloyd's pharmacy It has 3 settings and is discreet to wear if you're out and about Hope you find some relief very soon
