We moved house 2 years ago and we are just getting round to making changes that will make life a little easier.
We would like to purchase a dishwasher but the kitchen is too small to house it. In an ideal world, we would build an extension but don't have the funds.
We have a space in the garden with tap access. My DH is proposing that we buy a shed to fit in the gap and it can house the washing machine and the tumble dryer and then I would have space in the kitchen for the dishwasher. Here's a link for the shed, it's Keter outdoor storage 1200L:

Would you do this? Or do you have any recomendations? It would be in place for about 3-5 years so would have to be durable.
Thanks in advance!

No they aren’t dry so you’ll get moisture in the electrics. Where would you plug them in? Also you’ll be stood outside loading and unloading it In all weathers for the sake of a bit of washing up!

thanks @GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat. we thought about using a cover box for the electrics. The storage shed would be right next to the kitchen door so not too worried about sorting washing in all weathers. DH is convinced a plastic shed would be fine, but the moisture aspect would worry me.

We have that shed.

Everything in it has rusted just the same as in a wooden shed.

Lots of static caravans have washing machines in outside sheds but they are metal sheds.
I would consider the set up you're talking about if I was pushed for space.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 02/01/2020 20:20

They are popular on childminding groups I’m a member of and everyone complains pushchairs and car seats go mouldy really quickly in them. I wouldn’t but you sound like you’ve already decided tbh.

Is there anywhere else in the house you could put a tumble dryer? If you get the type that collects the water they don’t need plumbing in. If you could move the dryer then you have space for a dishwasher.

Knittedfairies · 02/01/2020 20:21

I wouldn't do it either. My tumble dryer lived in the garage for a while and that was a real nuisance. Could you fit a tabletop dishwasher in the kitchen?

heartonastring · 02/01/2020 20:30

So the kitchen is tiny. No room for anything extra but a good idea, so thank you.
I don't want to have to deal with rust and mould! My mum keeps her tumble dryer in a wooden shed my dad made and she's never had a problem but it was huge shed and she was in and out of it a lot.
I wonder if a smaller shed just wouldn't work...

Can you not fit the washer/drier in a bathroom?

I had a drier in the garage for a while and it was a pain, I kept dropping bits of laundry on the ground when getting it out of the drier or taking the laundry basket through. Would be better kept in the house for ease of loading/sorting.

BlueLadybird · 02/01/2020 20:54

I was thinking somewhere else in the house for the dryer, not the kitchen. Bathroom could work (I dream of an upstairs laundry space) or corner of bedroom/spare room?

LemonMousse · 02/01/2020 21:37

I had a condenser dryer in the cupboard under the stairs in my old house so we could fit a dishwasher in to the kitchen. The cupboard was just by the kitchen door so not far to lug wet laundry.
