PureGym - what are the classes like?

I've just joined - my first ever gym membership!

I'm 4 stone overweight. Just wondering what to expect from classes? Might I pass out and die?! Grin

Depends on the class - I'd book in for an induction and have a chat with one of the staff about classes. My friend is a PT at my local PureGym and she's fab at adapting classes (I've done some work with her outside of the gym, through a mutual hobby and she's taught a few group sessions for us).

A good instructor will ask if there is anything they need to know before a class. Have you had an induction with a trainer as they will also advise the best way to go about things. Just remember that it's your goals to work towards, little by little and don't beat yourself up if you can't keep up with others.

I'm a member at two PGs for about 4 years now and have attended lots of classes in both.

I would recommend you start with the legs, times and bums classes, abs or the circuits as these are easier to pace yourselves in. Burn It is great but Jesus it's hard work and not an ideal place to start!!!

People of all ages, fitness levels, shapes and sizes attend their classes so you wont feel conspicuous as a newbie. Sidle up to the PT at the beginning and tell them you're new and they'll keep an eye on you. You'll soon work out which trainers you like and which classes you prefer.

I loved them. Like pp said they do ask if anyone has any injuries or anything they need to know about before class starts. You can go at your own pace. I find them really motivating having everyone around me doing the same thing.
If you download the app you can see how many people are there before you go if you wanted to use the gym at a quieter time. And classes where I am were very quiet on weekends

I'm joined starting Monday - my day off. There's a 'legs, bums and tums' class at 9.15am, I'd not have chance to do an induction or anything first though!

When I joined you didn't need an induction

Fluckle · 02/01/2020 18:40

Induction really for using the equipment rather than classes. As long as you can find the lockers, I reckon you should crack on and book yourself into that class. Good luck!

Good mix of classes and the instructors on the whole are nice. They usually tell you take it at your own pace. LBT is a good one to start with - I find circuits quite intense but enjoyable and I like cycle as if it gets too hard I turn down the resistance.
