Anyone got National Trust membership and wish they hadn't?

I'm contemplating getting it for us this year. We only have weekends free, but also only holiday in the UK so would make use of it then too. We could stretch to the monthly direct debit but would need to feel it was worth it.

Anyone got it and just thought "meh"?

We are in the north east so there's maybe 3 or 4 sites within an hour or so drive of us.

We had a membership for a year at a discounted price but have let it lapse as there wasn't enough interesting things to look at near us.

I'm in the north east and use it loads. Cragside is expensive to visit so the membership will be worth it within a couple of trips there!
I love going in the summer holidays, we can pack a picnic and it's like a free day out. We are there year round though, building dens in the woods, warming up in the properties, watching kids in the playground. Wallington Gibside and Cragside are the best for a full days visit but I think Seaton Delaval will be fab too when refurb is done. What I like about the membership is that we can just pop in whenever so no pressure to be there for hours unless we want to.

We have been bought membership as gifts and never once used them.

We are a couple of months into our membership and absolutely loving it, wish we’d done in ages ago. Our children are of a similar age to yours and all the places we’ve done so far have been ideal - there is usually a trail of some kind around the house/grounds and loads of lovely outside space to explore. If you’re members then it doesn’t matter if you only pop in for an hour or stay the whole day. We are NW and there are a good few places within a reasonable distance, plus we will use it when travelling around too. I don’t think you would regret it

LittleLongDog · 03/01/2020 13:53

Oh god we’ll take them off your hands @DickDewy !

We can’t afford them this year (and haven’t been able to for a few years since I got ill). But when we had them it was so so lovely to just pop out for a walk and a cup of tea.

The headspace is just so nice.

If you can afford it I’d say go for it OP.

I'm in the North East, got our membership last year and it paid for itself within 2 months. We go to Gibside regulary now and have been to a few events like stargazing. Even just for an hour or 2 for a walk and park. Same with Wallington. Cragside is a bit further for us and we still haven't seen it all so need more trips back. We will definitely be continuing this year (pay by direct debit and got free mini binoculars when we signed up) and a lot of our friends have memberships too so great to meet up in holidays/on weekends.

We covered the annual cost with a week in Northern Ireland and a week in the Lake District. Other more local days out and car parking is a bonus!

Fantastic. Cragside so amazing & the holy island castle and covers Scotland.
