(How) do you give to charity?

Just wondering, how do you decide which charity/ies to support? Do you give regularly or as a one-off, or change depending on your circumstances? How do you decide how much to give?

I give to Alder hay children's hospital via DD.

I always give to the salvation army, my grandfather said they were the ones that kept the soldiers going in the war.

We help a little place locally, we deal with woman and kids trying to get out and starting again. Food, clothes and cash.

Variety of ways:
-Time, through volunteering
-Standing orders and direct debits, so the Charity has a regular monthly amount which helps their budgeting, and it just keeps going (I don't have to 'remember' to give, or only give if I'm feeling flush)
-Eating cake Grin , through things like MacMillan Coffee Mornings

  • Donations in lieu of flowers at funerals, obviously decided by the person who has died's loved ones
-Collecting box in the street for things like my Poppy in November -Sometimes give in lieu of a present when requested at a birthday or anniversary present -Occasionally one off envelope collections at Church for a partiuclar cause -Occasional 'donations' through things like Bring and Buy sales or raffles etc, when you aren't expecting to win, but want to support the 'cause' Occasionally when a friend is doing something sponsored

I give to charities as and when £1 here and there for dress up days at school. Jeans4genes, red nose day etc. Then charity pots when out and about ( fun ones the children put coins in ) such as RNLI, local charity wish fountain etc etc

Two monthly DDs - one to a charity related to a family health issue and the other the air ambulance.
I also do an annual adoption for an animal welfare centre.
Plus ad-hoc support throughout the year via sponsorship etc....

I volunteer hours for one and have three I support by ad hoc donations as and when they ask for supplies. Can send the items direct via amazon so easy and I know it will help.

direct debits to cancer research, RNLI and the air ambulance. Some volunteering. Buy from charity shops. Donate to charity shops.

NEVER to anyone climbing/running/travelling etc. NEVER via justgiving etc due to their huge cut. NEVER to street chuggers.
