What do you do for fun/hobbies?

I'm feeling a bit meh and looking for inspiration for something new to try for the new year.
I've got a bit of baby weight to lose, so something that helps with that would be great. But also just something that I could fit round the kids, that's not reading or watching tv.

How about learning a musical instrument or joining a choir? Doesn't help with weight loss obviously, but lots of fun.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 01/01/2020 20:01

My main hobbies are crochet & yoga. If you look at Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube, you should be able to fit it round the kids.

I coral a group of young wild wolves, teaching them survival skills, first aid, teamwork, science, safety, fun, games, songs etc in the aim of turning them into competent, independent young people.

AKA a Cub Scout Leader.

I run, keep a bullet journal, knit and sew. So many online communities for all of them, so no shortage of inspiration!

Swimming and hiking

I do acrylic pouring, it’s fun but messy.

I'm thinking yoga or Pilates @EmpressLesbianInChair. There's a class for both locally but I could only get there once a week, due to times/childcare etc. Do you think that would be easy enough to do at home if I went to a class once a week?

I like the idea of something creative, knitting, sewing etc. But don't know where to start, which is easier. I admittedly tried knitting once as a child and I wasn't good. I love baking, but I end up eating what I make so I'm trying to cut down on that.

Definitely not singing or musical instruments though. I can't hold a tune and I'd probably make the baby cry.

Crochet? Bellacoco and a few others who I didn't watch quite as often are how I learnt on YouTube.

I bought a die cutting machine at a local craft jumble sale. Then I bought some cutting dies. And card. Then another die cutting machine that cuts larger designs and will cut through fabric, though I haven't tested this yet. I made 2 books for relatives for Christmas presents - blank pages each with a different way to display pictures. I am making mini folding books for friends who are coming for lunch on Friday. It let's me be creative without having any artistic skills. I love it!

Another vote for yoga with adriene. I'm also a photographer and illustrator.

IckleWicklePumperNickle · 01/01/2020 20:37

Knitting, Wool spinning, Crocheting. Some others.

The newest one is Glass Lampwork, teaching myself.

IckleWicklePumperNickle · 01/01/2020 20:37

Sewing is another one.

TheBoxOfDelights · 01/01/2020 20:45

Yoga, tennis, rowing and cycling are my active things. I haven’t rowed (on water) or cycled outside since November and a nasty chest infection though. I am having a post Christmas break from tennis until March as I have cold induced asthma which has been triggered by my chest infection and I am sick of paying for stuff I can’t go to! Indoor exertion only for a couple of months is what I need.

I have Adrienne’s app ‘find what feels good’ which I enjoy, £7 a month from memory although it might be £8!

Weaving (rigid heddle loom) is the creative thing I enjoy the most - probably because it’s the easiest thing to do with lovely results! Other things I do from time to time, sewing for me and my home and crewelwork embroidery.

If you like dancing then try zumba? The only time I've ever lost weight (baby weight) fast and easily was when I started a fun Zumba class after the last baby. Ended up wanting to go 3/4 x a week even when I was at a good weight. Absolutely loved it.

I don’t know about Pilates but you’d have no trouble following Adrienne videos.

xmaself24 · 02/01/2020 06:56

I'm a power lifter. Trust me you'll feel amazing being able to lift huge amounts of weights!
