Anyone regret getting a dog?

I’m sitting here with the dog we’ve had visiting for a few weeks. He’s been on the beach, I’m loving having him here. Anyone regret having got one?

I have to laugh at the Patterdale owner, all I ever here about them is that they are utter buggars!

I love my dog and wouldn't change her for anything, I will not get another though once she has gone. The commitment and restrictions are huge, and it really is a bit like having another child to look after!

@RandomMess - utter bugger is an understatement, thank you for the sympathy!

I had a colleague with 2 they used climb the 12' fence and take themselves for a walk in the woods quite often.

A friend had one that decided fireworks only existed in their garden and refused to go on walks starting from their house, objected deafeningly to people riding horses, they lived in the country 😂

Puppy regret - yes. Bastarddog was a fairly chilled out pup but still drove me nuts.

Now he is nearly two. We have to plan days out around him, have had to stop doing some types of holidays and have enough loose hair to make a spare dog every week, despite grooming. But he is just wonderful, loves us so much, cuddles up and gives the best ever greetings. I wouldn't be without him.

I don't regret getting my pooch-my only regret is that I didn't get her years ago. I love her to bits, she is very sweet natured. However I worry about her and get very stressed about whether she is eating enough/the right foods, getting enough stimulation, if she is happy and knows how much I love her etc etc.

Hopefully I will have many more happy years with her. I will never get another dog no other dog could match up to her

I too regretted it very much when he was a puppy. Now I couldn’t be without him.

He has to have two full days at dog daycare though, plus at least off lead walk of at least 40 mins every day. If not he is a nightmare in the evenings (still only 18 months though)

I love going downstairs in the morning and him wiggling over to greet me. Or snuggling on the sofa. Or watching him out running along with the DC and seeing how much the love each other.

He’s eaten a lot of shoes though.

I don't regret getting a dog but he is my first and will be my last.

He is a cool dog but even after six years it still makes me heave picking up poo and the walks sometimes feel like just another thing on the to do list. I am glad he is our pet and I wouldn't swap or change him but I will just stick to horses after him I think.

We dont regret getting ours, but not going to get another one. As others have said they are just like having a child with the amount of work that goes into taking care of them and considering plans like holidays etc.

I refused to get a puppy as I really didn't want to go through that stage so we got a 2YO staffie.

He's 10 now so still a few years left.

If you’re thinking of getting one, research as much as possible. Don’t fall for cutesy adverts/names. Be prepared to have to put in a shit ton of work and time. You might get an easy puppy if you’re lucky.

I’m completely in love with my two. My dh and I chose one each. I chose the cuddly chilled one, he chose the naughty, high energy one that had learned to escape his pen. They have been as expected. Mine is chill, obedient, anyone’s dog. His brother pushes every boundary known to man dog. Both are adorable. People stop to congratulate us on their obedience on walks (we train) but don’t realise this is due to a hell of a lot of time and consistency.
