What's the going rate for a cleaner?

I've got a 5 bed house. Cleaner comes weekly and does whole house including 3 bathrooms.

I was paying her £45 a week. She wants to put it up to £55 a week.

Does this sound fair?

It depends where you are and how long she takes.

That does seem like a big jump, unless she hasn't put her prices up for a long time.

butterry · 31/12/2019 19:46

How long does it take her to do? The going rate here is £12-16 an hour

£12-15 per hour. That’s a lot of house to clean for £45. How long does she take?

It takes my cleaner 6 hours to clean a slightly bigger house. That includes changing 3 beds, but isn’t a deep clean. If I need the fridge cleaned or cupboards emptied etc, it takes longer (and costs more).

I’d focus on how many hours and how thorough the cleaning is before deciding if she’s good value.

£40 here for a 4 bed, 2 reception room house. Takes 3 hours. Started on £36 but I have her a payrise as she's so good and ime good cleaners are like hens' teeth. I want to keep her.

Agree with PP that a good cleaner is like gold dust. I’ve hired and fired many (and took the last one to small claims court for a whole load of careless damage she caused). Keep hold of your cleaner if you think she’s good and the rate seems fair

I am £10 an hour. That would make that 4.5 hours. How much stuff to u have in ur house. Does she have to move everything out the way. Is she cleaning from the top all the way down a room ie tops of doors, windows etc every week

turnthebiglightoff · 31/12/2019 20:14

I pay £36 for 3 hours in a 2 bed semi in London. £55 seems ridiculously cheap. £10-12 ph seems normal here.

frustratedashell · 31/12/2019 20:16

I charge £15 @ hour, I'm in Sussex. As other people have said it depends on how many hours she does. That is quite a big jump though.

Moondancer73 · 31/12/2019 20:17

I'm a cleaner and I charge £12.50 an hour. I'd say your house is at least a four hour and a half hour clean if not five depending on downstairs space so yes, £55 is reasonable

CoffeeCoinneseur · 31/12/2019 20:20

We pay our cleaner £15 an hour for 5 hours a week.

Mrshue · 31/12/2019 20:21

I have a 6 bedroom house. My cleaner works 3 hrs a week and does one floor per week (townhouse. We have 4 floors). I pay her £12.50 an hour.

ellesbellesxxx · 31/12/2019 20:21

£12 an hour here

Juanmorebeer · 31/12/2019 20:24

Depends on the time it takes? Here in East Mids it is £10 ph going rate

Penguin34 · 31/12/2019 21:35

We have 2 people come for 2 hours and it costs £48.

They are marvellous!

4 bedrooms, but they usually only change 2 or 3 beds. 2 shower rooms, 1 bathroom and a d/s loo.

I can never get my kitchen cupboards as shiny as they do.

They are so quick too, they even pull out the sofa in the kitchen. Love them
