Can I use out of date puff pastry?

Making party food for tonight, didn’t realise puff pastry had gone out of date. It’s gluten free puff pastry by jus roll, use by 5th December. It’s remained in the fridge.

Open it and look for tiny black spots on it. If you see them then it's mouldy and you can't use it. From experience, it will probably be too late.

If it smells vinegary it’s definitely off. This has happened to me a few times so if I can’t tell by the smell I cut a strip off and place it in the oven. If it puffs up nicely and doesn’t smell I use it.
Having said that, I’ve never used one more than a few days after the use by date.

5 December? No way. I bet if you open it it will smell rank. Pastry has a distinctive smell when off.

I wouldn't, not if you are making food for a party.

Don’t worry, it’s not for anyone else. I wouldn’t serve guests out of date food even if I thought it was ok! DH will be the one missing out!

It's one food which will tell you straight away if it's off! Mould or smell. Ime it will be off, even if in the fridge. I buy the frozen version now, much easier.
