Mine always seems to end up a bit stuck to the pan & I'm cooking curry for tea, shortly.

Any tips so it doesn't stick? :)

@Fluffycloudland77 tefal, it's got 8 settings so can be used for steaming, slow cooking and cooking grains. Mine is used at least once a week. Best kitchen gadget I've bought.

Put rice in pot
Rinse until water runs clear
Put your index finger in the rice and mark where the rice ends with your thumb
Add water to the same depth
Boil until no water
Then keep on lowest heat until soft

Don't touch it after step one

My auntie taught me this when I was at primary school. Perfect rice every time!

DramaAlpaca · 31/12/2019 21:01

My mother taught me this easy way:

  1. Bring water to the boil in a large pan, add a pinch of salt
  2. Add basmati rice
  3. Stir with a fork until the grains start to come to the top of the water
  4. Simmer for 12 minutes exactly
  5. Drain rice into a colander
  6. Pour through a kettle full of boiling water

Rice will be tender, fluffy, non-starchy and perfect

Google how to make rice in a microwave on the Delicious website. It is the easiest, cleanest, least effort way ever. Perfect rice too.

Wash the rice well before cooking. Cook in lots of water until done - sample it until it's just right. Drain in to a sieve and wash the rice by running boiling water through.

QuestionableMouse · 31/12/2019 23:03

Just buy the frozen honestly.

Clymene · 31/12/2019 23:05

Not gluten @SimonJT - starch!

Lucked · 31/12/2019 23:08

I buy boil in the bag mostly but if I do buy loose I rinse, it is amazing how much starch comes off.

BentNeckLady · 31/12/2019 23:10

Put rice in saucepan
Add water about the same depth as the rice over the top
Bring to boil with lid on. Turn right down
Turn off when looks almost cooked and leave until you want to eat it.

Rice is really simple cookery.

GamechangerRanger · 31/12/2019 23:13

Rinse in cold water. Double the water to rice ratio. One mug of rice between 2 people. Bring to boil. Then simmer till holes appear on surface. Drain and rinse in boiling water. Job done.

Soak Tillda basmati rice in cold water for 30 minutes. Boil kettle and bring an inch of water to boil in a saucepan.
Rinse the rice and pour boiling water over. Add rest of water to the saucepan.
Add rice, return to the boil, stir once and simmer for 7 minutes. Drain in sieve and put sieve over empty saucepan. Cover with clean dry tea towel and leave to steam for 15 minutes.
Fluff up with a fork, perfect fluffy rice everytime.

Thunderclearstheair · 01/01/2020 00:25

What are you people doing rinsing! You sound like my MIL Grin

One cup of rice to two cups of water.
Salt
Bring to the boil
Simmer for around 13-14 mins until rice starts to catch.
Lid on always.
Perfect every time

Gets rid of starch and makes it less sticky. Millions of Asians and ME folk can’t be wrong!

Kinsters · 01/01/2020 01:04

I usually do jasmine rice, prefer it to basmati.

Wash the rice really well, put 1 cup rice to 1.5 cups water in the pan and bring to the boil (lid off). Put the lid on and turn down hear until water is just simmering. Leave for 20-30 minutes (it always seems ok no matter how long I leave it).

Rice cooked in a rice cooker is nicer though. Plus a rice cooker pot is designed to be really easy to clean.

NewName73 · 01/01/2020 11:38

Rinsing doesn't just get rid of the starch but also the arsenic.

For two people about 3/4 mug of rice, and double the amount of water, into a Pyrex bowl. In microwave for 6 mins on high, 7 on defrost. More rice= more time, or a lower powered microwave might need a bit more on defrost. Let the steam out when it's finished and it always works me!

Buy a rice cooker!

lilgreen · 02/01/2020 17:50

OMG just cooked brown rice in the microwave thanks to this thread. It’s perfect and a lot less messy! Thanks!

Best part of an hour and a half, gone. On rice!

FrenchyQ · 03/01/2020 08:13

One cup of rice to one cup of water. Bring to the boil and then turn down to the lowest setting and put lid on. Timr for 12 minutes

lilgreen · 03/01/2020 09:10

Microwave it. Will never use a saucepan again.
