What do you keep in your nappy bag?

I’ve bought myself a posh new bag with tons of storage but keen to travel light. I love being organised and hearing what others do to keep life running smoothly.

I’m a childminder so keeping it general, I have nappies for each child and wipes etc. Clean (new) underwear and bottoms (neutral) so I don’t have to carry 3 sets, first aid kit and non perishable snacks for back up.

Any other ideas?

Piriton. My child has food allergies so I have to always have it on me, but a consultant at the hospital allergy clinic once said it would be wise for all parents to carry a bottle. You never know when someone might have an allergic reaction.

I'm a nanny to a toddler and I just chuck a spare nappy and a pack of wipes in my handbag now. If we're out for the day, I'll take drinks, snacks, sunscreen etc as appropriate. One ingenious idea I've started carrying around with me recently is a chamois leather in a bag, fantastic for drying off wet slides and swings at the playground, it works much better than the old tea towel I used to take.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 31/12/2019 16:01

Ooh a chamois is genius!

My dd (older so would be at school) also has allergies, so we always have petition in the house. I wonder where I’d stand with giving mindees medicine without advance permission. I think it’s probably a no no.

I just use my normal handbag with fabric pouches in. I have a wet/dry bag (we use cloth nappies) with two or three nappies in the dry part, along with a few spare liners, a pouch of wipes, a muslin or two and a fold up change mat. Then a fabric pouch for food/snacks/drinks (depending on where we're going/how long for) and another fabric pouch for my purse, keys, anything I need. Then normally a water bottle for me and that's pretty much it. The fabric pouches make it easy to just grab the compartment you need (instead of lugging the bag full of nappies etc off the pram just to get a beaker of water out, or taking the food compartment into the bathroom to change a nappy!)

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 31/12/2019 20:45

The reason I don’t use my normal handbag is that I like to keep it packed and ready to go. As I said my own are all older so I have a nice ‘non- work’ handbag for me at the weekend and a changing bag to keep all my mindees bits in for work days.

I actually have some of those fabric pouches, I’ll definitely use them. As you said it makes it handy to grab just what you need.

I keep a spare £10 folded up in a side pocket. Great if you're out longer than anticipated and need to get a drink/snack with a toddler, or if baby kicks off and needs feeding and you need to kill an hour in a coffee shop to do so!

I use a small handbag for outings of a couple hours which contains one reusable nappy, small wet bag, one small dog poo bag, wipes, toy, and some food

I have a lovely Cath Kidston Jungle Book bag which we use as the change bag. In the front pocket is a coverall bib, flannel in a mini dry bag and non perishable snacks.

In the main compartment I have a small sturdy (probably would be classed as a makeup) bag which has random items in it that I don’t use often but are very useful- dettol wipes, mini dustpan and brush (and I mean mini!), reusable bag, work ID card, headphones, antibac gel, umbrella and a couple of nappy bags for if I need to bag and bin something.
We use cloth, so in the main compartment also is 3 nappies (which take up the most space) and a wipes bag, with a change of clothes, and then my purse.

And then it has a back compartment which is probably meant to be for a laptop if the bag was being used for it’s intended purpose, which has the fold up change mat, 2 reusable nappy bags, and then 2 reusable carrier bags as that’s the easiest place to grab them from when at the till

I have far too much stuff in my changing bag that needs to come out but in general I keep -
Nappies
Wipes
Nappy bags / plastic bag for dirty clothing
Calpol and syringe / plasters
Snacks such as raisins or any food that isn’t likely to go off anytime soon.
Spare clothes / socks
£10 note and loose change for emergency
Baby toy/teether
Mini hand sanitiser.

DappledThings · 31/12/2019 21:49

Snacks, colouring/sticker books, muslin for snotty noses, water bottle

tiredtrumpet · 31/12/2019 21:56

I have nappies for both children (different sizes in different sides of the bag, it has loads of compartments)
Wipes
Spare set of clothes for baby
Spare set of trousers for toddler
Nappy bags
Hand sanitizer
Calpol travel sachets
Non perishable snacks
A pre made bottle of aptamil
Crayons and some scrap paper

Before I head out I add keys, purse, phone, sterilised bottle and juice box for toddler.

How I ever go out anywhere I don't know Grin

Mrsdoubtfireswig · 31/12/2019 21:59

Nappies, wipes, anti bac gel and nappy bags in large makeup bag so can just lift out and take to baby change without taking the whole bag

In the rest of the bag - spare clothes, non perishable snacks, calpol sachets, a flap book and for the day spoon / fork, bib, fruit snacks and water bottle

Recently just started taking DS little bag with one nappy, wipes, cutlery, snacks and drink for the day but feel like we’re travelling too light !
