Hi saw your thread, I'm a gas engineer, work for major UK company, as long as you have them installed correctly and keep the annual maintainance up you will be fine with any of those manufacters baxi Warren ties are 1 if the best

ClarencesMum · 01/01/2020 11:08

He's recommending it because he won't stock or fit worchester. They only go into partnership with a limited number of suppliers in an area.

Baxi are guff.

Thanks everyone I think we will chance the Ideal.

we had an ideal from 2006 till we moved 2019. had an issue twice. we had homecare via ideal which was excellent and quick.

our new house has a 3yr old ideal (new version of ours!). its fine.

I'm a heating engineer, I would never consider a Worcester in my own home. Their great reputation comes from marketing spin, not from the trade. Ideal and Baxi are both reliable boilers, Baxi being my own preference.

Agree with the above post.
I too am a qualified gas engineer and have spent many years as both a breakdown engineer and installer.
The Worcester boilers are massively overrated and have a very high level of plastic components in them.
The new 8000 range is quite good but again, for the same money there are many other exceptional boilers.
Be careful of choosing a brand rather than a particular boiler as most manufacturers have a poor boiler in their range.
Personally I'd recommend Intergas as they have very few components (we've installed 100's and have only had one breakdown) but avoid the X range as they are noisy and less reliable.
The Vaillant boilers are very good, particularly the EcoTec Plus.
I can't comment on the Viessmann as I haven't installed any but have repaired a few. The 200 range is excellent compared to the 50 and 100 range.
The Ideal Vouge is great but there's lots of issues with the Ideal Logic's main heat exchanger.
Make sure that your central heating system is properly flushed as part of the installation as poor system quality is likely to be the cause of any breakdown and also likely to invalidate the warranty.
On that note, it's worth considering the Intergas as there is only one component (the pump) that comes into contact with the central heating water. Simple, robust, easy to service and long warranties gets my vote every time.
Also look at using OpenTherm controls (Nest, Honeywell and a few others) as these will be more efficient and better at regulating the boiler output, especially if connected online.

My plumber has had decades of experience and he recommends Baxi over everything.
I have a Worcester Bosch..they are an absolute nightmare. What would have been a simple operation on a baxi was a nightmare with the Bosch.

It should have been just cleaning an inexpensive part..which refused to clean..it was blocked solid.
So instead of it costing £40 it ended up costing £400

You have to practically strip the whole boiler down to change anything is what he said.
The Bosch is a good boiler unless something goes wrong

The annoying thing is this boiler is only about 7 years old and is serviced regularly.
