Boycott Marks and Spencer: "It'll upset the men"

Following me being barred from men's changing rooms/M&S's new genderfree changing rooms because "it'll upset the men", surely it's time we fought back and actually, definitively boycotted Marks and Spencer.

  • Steve Rowe, their CEO, has created a policy where men can go into women's changing rooms
  • They didn't consult with women, and they haven't consulted with their own staff
  • Not one woman has received a proper response to any of their emails and letters sent to M&S. They continue to refuse to address a single concern of women.

The contempt they are showing their primary market is working for them as long as we shop there. They won't care until their shareholders care.

There is one way to get them to reverse this mad decision: we, their main market, need to withdraw our custom.

Vacate M&S stores. It'll upset the men.

I was refused access because quote: It'll upset the men

Diddums to the poor little snowflakes. If we had an M&S I'd be sorely tempted to go and try on some clothes in the mens changing room.

When is their AGM? Asking a few awkward questions is often a good tactic.

If men can go into women's changing rooms but not vice-versa, does this not infringe the Equalities Act?

ChristmassySpice · 31/12/2019 16:16

I've been boycotting for a while now. Not missed a thing. Thought it would bother me a bit over Chriatmas, but nope!
I'll be sticking to my guns in 2020 too.

Oh I wish I ‘d known. I was there yesterday and would definitely tried to use the men’s changing rooms. Not that I wanted to buy anything, though my teenage daughters did!

Glentherednosedbattleostrich · 31/12/2019 16:26

I'm already boycotting them because of their unisex policy.

I have some of posies stickers to pop up in the toilets next time I'm passing.

mencken · 31/12/2019 16:38

I'm a small M and S shareholder, never heard of this. Never shop there (or buy many clothes anywhere). Sounds like time to sell up.

or just keep them because it also looks it will piss off Liz Carr, supporter of enforced suffering.

xJodiex · 31/12/2019 16:42

Already boycotting, I think it's disgusting they'll not let us have privacy away from males, especially the ones with a fetish. Hope no one gets assaulted due to their inclusiveness. Certainly won't be me.

DrPimplePopper · 31/12/2019 17:25

Did anyone see a Reddit thread recently with a woman who had snapped a pic of her outfit in a changing room (in America I think so not M and S, but unisex changing rooms) and when she looked at the photo there was a man's hand holding a phone filming her reflection under the wall from adjoining cubicle? She had a hell of a time with getting support from security etc. It just made me think how much more common these types of incidents will be if self ID is introduced and men going in female changing rooms is more commonplace. Obviously it's already happening in unisex areas, but we have a need to protect female spaces as much as possible, not open the doors freely for those who will take advantage.

ALongHardWinter · 31/12/2019 18:39

Am I understanding this correctly? Men are allowed in the womens' changing rooms,as long as they 'identify as female',but women are not allowed in the mens' changing rooms, because 'it will upset the men'? How blatantly sexist is that?!

Boristhecats · 31/12/2019 20:16

I had no idea. I spend slot of money with then every month. No more.

Muminabun · 31/12/2019 21:11

Really sad to say I feel much less inclined to shop With them because of this. It is so telling that they haven’t told their own staff about this policy. They know their shop floor staff will object because they know the customers best and will see this is so wrong.

We all know that women are not asking to share changing rooms and toilets with men. Why M & S reckon it's such a good idea to piss off their core customer base by pandering to male dominated organisations I cannot imagine.
I'm boycotting - have not only cancelled my account and had an M & S free Christmas but even the Christmas flowers delivered to elderly relatives came from somewhere else this year (last year it was M & S).

Xanthangum · 01/02/2020 14:33

Resurrecting an M&S thread thanks to a long twitrant about the history of cross-dressing sparked by the request of a member of Marks' staff that someone coming for a bra fitting should arrive 'dressed as a woman'.

IMO the thread is someone being deliberately obtuse and failing to consider any other, female shoppers' feelings. But the chilling bit is the reply from M&S wanting names and locations. I fear someone's job is on the line.
