Given up on sleep

These last two weeks have been the worse for a long time. I sleep from 10 to about 2, then awake for a few hours and then get an hour or two more if I'm lucky. I've only slept through a couple of times. Dh and I don't get any time together as I'm asleep. I'm spending too long on my own in my head.
Is there a way to reset my sleep pattern so I sleep through? If I drink I'm OK but I can't do that every night.

How do you actually feel when you don't sleep much?
I am here now, wide awake, and I start a 24 hour shift at work at 9am. I often get insomnia, but it is pretty much just "my thing". Sometimes I can sleep all day, wake up for a few hours, then go back to bed and sleep again, and other times, I can go days just having naps... Oddly, it never seems to affect how I function.
Does your sleep (or lack thereof) affect you day to day?

I can cope for one night/day but I have a health condition that gets worse when I'm tired so at some point I'm going to collapse

I'm having the same issue. Wake up to use the loo at 2pm and can't sleep for another 4 hours. I'll get one extra hour before being woken by the kids and the need to go to work

It might be worth a visit to the GP for a chat/check up.
People advocate all sorts of things to help them sleep... At least the doctor can rule out anything medical, and might be able to make a suggestion that will work.

Me too. Fall asleep fine at about 11, wide awake anytime between 2 and 4, if I'm lucky I'll drop off for another hour 5-6...then I need to be up for work.
I take sleeping pills sometimes but they don't Always work and then I feel even worse the next day.
It's becoming debilitating for me now actually-I'm so tired by about noon every day that I can't think straight.
I've had insomnia on and off since I was 17-but this is the worst it's ever been...

And yes I know being on phone doesn't help-but I get so bored!

People have no idea what it's like unless they've lived with it- it's exhausting. My new GP was arguing that she didn't want to give me sleeping tablets (I get two weeks worth every couple of years when my insomnia gets so bad it's affecting my mental health) but it is sometimes the only thing that give me enough rem sleep not to feel like I'm going crazy. I rarely sleep a full night. It's so tiring

I have somehow got into a routine of going to bed, not being able to sleep and then falling asleep about 5am and waking up at 9am, I'm hoping it's jet lag from a long flight for xmas which will get reset when I do the flight back. It'd better be.

Well I managed another hour and now set up to work so I can get stuff done. I'm guessing I won't be awake at midnight again this year
