Toilet training

Hi all,

Just wondering when you know your child isn't ready and to stop toilet training and to save it for a later date?

I'm only 4 days in so not expecting miracles but I guess what I'm asking is, how many accidents are 'normal' and how many indicate they're not ready?

Day one was great, he told us when he needed to go and that's kind of dwindled. He only goes if I ask if he needs to and there's been accidents in between....

How old is he? I don’t potty train mine until they tell me they’re ready. Have never really had any accidents. Generally founding we’re ready around their 3rd birthdays.

He's 2.5.

I thought he was ready as he would come to tell me he needed to do a wee (although he wouldn't tell us about a poo until after the event).

He also always wants his nappy off when it's wet etc.

If he’s telling you something, it’s worth sticking with it.

It sounds like he's ready, but has just realised it's not terribly exciting.

blckcurt · 30/12/2019 10:33

Yeah - it's likely he found it so exciting on day one then the novelty wore off and he's lost interest. I don't know if he's not ready or if I'm being lazy!

We're doing the gentle potty training method and she suggests that the first day you might be 10% on potty and 90% accidents....by day 7-14 you might see a shift of 90% on potty and 10% accidents.
Maybe stick with it, if he's telling you that's a really good sign. Good luck!

Spoke to soon!

He just said "I NEED THE TOILET" and RAN to the stairs (we are doing toilet, not potty). He then proceeded to do a wee which was much bigger than he has done so far. Even he said "that was a big one"

I'm hanging on in there....
