How many hours sleep do you get?

I got a smart watch for my Christmas and one of the things it does is track how much sleep you get every night. I’ve always been a terrible sleeper but it’s showing the last few nights I have ranged from just shy of 5 hours and the longest 7 hours. Last night was 2 hours 58 minutes! My DP seems to think this is an issue and I should go to the doctor. I’ve always been a rubbish sleeper tho. Does anyone else track their sleep? How many hours do you get?

I get anywhere from 5 hours to 10 hours (I have anxiety so sometimes end up waking up in the night and not getting back to sleep, hence the 5 hours sleep). I sometimes feel more groggy getting 10 hours than I do getting 5-6 hours though.
My ideal would be 8.5 every night but that rarely ever happens.
I listened to a podcast about sleep recently and apparently regularly having less than 6 hours can be really bad for your health in the long term and cause things like heart disease to develop.
Do you take anything to help you at the moment? Magnesium can be good just before you go to sleep as it relaxes the nervous system.are you comfortable in your bed and not too hot or too cold? Does your partner snore and wake you up?

About 7 a night here. Not enough for me really, but not enough hours in a day!

How do you feel generally? What happens if you go to bed earlier?

I get around 8 to 10 hours sleep a night. Around two hours is light sleep each night.

On average 6 and a half. But can be as little as five. Once a fortnight about 7 and a half.

I am generally an anxious person, my do just has to put his head on the pillow and he is gone. I always feel a bit like because he is such a heavy sleeper I need to keep aware in case the kids need me during the night. I think this is from when they were babies and had just continued. I just lie with my eyes closed and hope I will fall over but usually end up thinking about all sorts of random things and probably end up worrying needlessly. Don’t you think things always seem worse in the middle of the night when it’s silent and dark? When I wake up I usually think why was I stressing about that?

OP try headspace meditation app before bed. I have a job that's hard to switch off from and can lie awake all night thinking about. Headspace sends me to sleep almost straight away.

Depends when I go to bed on a week night, but usually 7-8 hours. On a weekend, if I haven't set an alarm, generally 10+. Now the perimenopausal nocturnal wee fest is over, I do not wake in the night.

@Fizzypoo thanks for that recommendation I shall have a look. I really didn’t realise how bad I was until seeing it on this tracker thing

If stress is stopping you sleeping then there are lots of self-help sleep-apps that might improve things. They all seem to be based on assuming that anxiety is stopping you from sleeping. They try to improve things by changing sleep hygiene & implementing sleep "restriction".

I get furious about Sleep restriction because I view it as a form of torture. However, many people swear by performance sleep restriction and it is extremely in fashion so easy to find lots of support to try it, including whole communities. You may find it's a great solution for you.

I don't sleep well (see screenshot) which is annoying... but it doesn't cause problems in my life. I can get by for a few days in a row on < 3 hours/night. My own insomnia has nothing to do with anxiety, sleep hygiene or general stress levels.

My DS2 (aged 15 months) is a crap sleeper and so much less than I’d like! I stopped wearing my Fitbit to track sleep as it depressed me but am thinking of wearing it again. He had me up 6 or 7 times last night...

I have attached a screenshot of my last few days according to my fit bit. Probably getting a bit more than usual because it's Xmas so I can nap and don't have to be up for work
