What's your resting pulse, and how can I improve mine?

Just wondering if anyone has actively tried to reduce their bpm and been successful?

Mine has been high as long as I remember. At least 80+. I'm 27 now and 10 mins ago it was 94bpm. That's pretty bad isn't it! My BMI is 23 and whilst I work in an office job I'm not completely sedentary, although I could definitely exercise more.

I am currently in an awful team and signed off sick, but as I said my heart rate has never been very low and I would like to improve it anyway.

I have always had a high heart rate. In the 80’s. After any surgery I have it’s usually about 100. I too am a normal weight and not desperately unfit but not fit either. The only way to improve it is through exercise.

Doctors have never worried about it so I try not to either.

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/12/2019 20:35

I started running three years ago and my resting bpm has reduced about 15 bpm. If not more. Three times a week, every week.

It was in the 80s, now in the 60s.

sqirrelfriends · 29/12/2019 20:37

Usually high 60's but it can go as high as 100 if I get annoyed 😂

I wouldn't worry, isn't 100bpm still in the range of normal?

hopefulhalf · 29/12/2019 20:40

62bpm

4forkssake · 29/12/2019 20:41

Exercise & diet can make a big difference to resting HR & even after a couple of weeks of exercise, you could see a big difference. Also things like lemon balm tea can help lower your HR so might be worth a try. Likewise trying to de stress so try some mindful apps to help de stress

dementedpixie · 29/12/2019 20:41

I am fat (nearly16 stone) but do exercise regularly. Today's heart rate has ranged from 57-70 bpm

WeaselsKingHenry · 29/12/2019 20:42

Mine is anywhere between 45 and 55. Which is weirdly low, I think, but my GP just shrugged when I queried it (as I feel fine, normal BP etc). I'm reasonably fit but not excessively so. I think a lot of it is down to the genetic lottery! It does hike up when I'm ill with a cold or similar.

Northernsoullover · 29/12/2019 20:42

Do you drink alcohol? Quitting that took 10bpm off mine.

PullingMySocksUp · 29/12/2019 20:43

Do you know what your blood pressure is? Off on a slight tangent but I think high bp is more of an immediate worry?

Did you sit really still before measuring your heart rate?
I guess more exercise is the way to lower it Smile

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/12/2019 20:43

I wouldn't worry, isn't 100bpm still in the range of normal?

It's the top end of normal and studies show lower is better in terms of cardiovascular health and risk of premature death.

Doubleraspberry · 29/12/2019 20:44

A resting heart rate of between 50-70 bpm is best. But during the day it’s normal for it to be higher than that as you do various things. Any calculation really needs to include what your heart rate is at night.

SinglePringle · 29/12/2019 20:46

My RHB is 50. 5’8, 10.5st. Exercise 5 times a week.

YearofMisAdventure · 29/12/2019 20:46

Cardio exercise. Mine can be up to 80. I am 39 and not very active at all currently. When I was exercising a couple of years ago it was about 58. You will notice a difference within a couple of days of exercising.

WiltedDaffs · 29/12/2019 20:55

Mine used to be 75-80. Now it's low 60's, sometimes less than 60bpm. I started cycling to/from work a year ago and it's made a big difference.

Branleuse · 29/12/2019 20:57

Usually about 50-60

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 29/12/2019 20:59

Mine is typically low 50s, sometimes less than 50. I am fairly fit, but my heartbeat is genetic - it's low even when I'm unfit.

puppymouse · 29/12/2019 21:17

Mine's low. 45-50bpm. It's annoying at times as I struggle to keep warm if I don't move for a while. My circulation is bad and I am frequently cold. I'm about a stone over the upper weight for a normal BMI but if I drop large amounts of weight I am even colder. At my smallest I was actually sat on the beach in Sicily in the summer with a hoody on.

I have a burning hot shower before bed in the winter to kick start things and help me get to sleep.

bumblingbovine49 · 29/12/2019 21:25

Mine is 66 at the moment ( just checked) but have taken measurements that are lower in the past . I have always had on the low side of normal blood pressure whenever it has been taken. I am obese ( previously morbidly so for a number of years), never exercise and haven't done for about 10 years. Make of that what you will

azigazigah · 29/12/2019 21:51

56, I'm a good 5 stone overweight and average 10k steps a day, al,OST no exercise. Low BP too.

DebbieFiderer · 29/12/2019 21:57

Mine is low 60s, occasionally high 50s, I am morbidly obese (BMI 48) and have a very sedentary job and do little exercise, so it really has no business being that low. I wouldn't worry - while heart rate can be impacted by general health, it isn't in and of itself a sign of good or poor health, so just work on making sure you do all the things we all know we should be doing.

user1471453601 · 29/12/2019 22:00

Mine is over 100 per min. It's normal for me
