Hi guys,

I'm newly single and turning 30 in Aug 2020, I'm determined to do something for myself as no one else will! :) I was thinking initially of a beach holiday, but I actually think I'd benefit from "doing" something and exploring an awesome place.

Please note I will not have a car/can't drive.

For my ex's 30th I took him to Oslo, Norway and I learned how much I love Scandinavia. So I'm considering Scandinavia by myself... perhaps Iceland.

Any other suggestions?

Flight and accommodation budget maximum £600, but I was only thinking of going for 4 nights.

May not fit your budget in school holidays (do you want to be away on your birthday or could you go a month or so later?), but Stockholm is fab for solo travellers - very safe and easy to get around on public transport and easy to get outside the city a bit if you want to do that.

I had a fab time in Paris on my own. Plenty to go nosey at. Fabulous food.

Ooh will definitely look at Stockholm, thanks :D

Thanks Troll. I've been to Paris.... I did like it but I'm not in a hurry to go back as I'd like to explore other places first :)

How about Finland? It's easy to get around solo on public transport. Maybe a couple of days in Helsinki then get the sleeper train to Roveneimi where there are plenty of snow based activities (I enjoyed snow shoe walking and a snow mobile trip). I got the bus from there up to Inari, which was very beautiful and had some beautiful walks. Loved it.

Solo travel is bloody wonderful.

Iceland!

What time of year did you go for the snowshoe walks? :) Sounds like my sort of thing

Copenhagen is lovely and you can take a day trip to Roskilde - viking museum is fab.

marvelousways · 29/12/2019 19:19

if you can be flexible when you go what about a trip to see the Northern lights?

Scandinavia is very expensive. Is £600 your budget for everything, food, attractions etc, or just flights and accommodation?

I've travelled around Europe a lot, generally alone. Poland was my first solo destination. There's a lot of history and culture, beautiful cities and affordable prices. Its very easy to travel between cities, the trains are cheap and pretty reliable. Never had any problems language wise and always felt safe
