Wensleydale

I don't like it - i've really tried, but nope! However 2 pre packed cheeseboards later I have acquired two chunks (with obligatory cranberries). Before I cave in & chuck them out can anyone suggest a way to use them which is reasonably palatable??

I prefer it as grilled cheese than cold.

Winterdaysarehere · 29/12/2019 11:52

Send it here!! Omg I love it!!

I'm not that keen on Wensleydale either but I think the cranberry one is okay on top of a digestive biscuit. It's a bit like cheesecake.

Works great in toasted sandwiches, yum!

NemophilistRebel · 29/12/2019 12:13

I love Wensleydale
Never tried to toasted though

CuriousaboutSamphire · 29/12/2019 12:15

Grilled on toast with Brandon pickle underneath.

But throw the cranberry one in the bin, that's an abomination!

DGRossetti · 29/12/2019 12:16

Cheese with anything in it is an abomination and can be safely binned without any further thought.

ouch321 · 29/12/2019 12:17

The Yorkshire Soup Company does a lovely tomato with chunks of it in.

jillandhersprite · 29/12/2019 12:19

Do you like Christmas cake - it's divine with that.
But agree the cranberry one is an abomination - I'd probably let the birds have that as a Christmas treat... X

TheWinterCaillech · 29/12/2019 12:21

Cubed in a green salad.

wannabebetter · 29/12/2019 12:36

Ooh lots to try here...! Thank you, the crumbled in tomato soup one sounds interesting (not the cranberry one obviously!) hoping for an epiphany!!

You could list it on the Olio app for someone to collect.

BingoLittlesUncle · 29/12/2019 12:39

Cheese with berries in (whatever kind) should be thrown away. The un-berried kind is great in a cheese and strawberry jam sandwich

MashedSpud · 29/12/2019 12:39

I love it.

Caerphilly, Cheshire and Lancashire are lovely too.

Peach1886 · 29/12/2019 12:44

The best chippy in Wensleydale serves it deep-fried (we live nearby) and def don't base your opinion on the cranberry-added variety as that is best left to the birds ...and my DH...

BuffaloCauliflower · 29/12/2019 12:45

Pre packaged cheese boards are the issue here. Make your own and get only good cheese, including more interesting ones than the boring prepackaged selections

Cheese with anything in it should be thrown away.

I might have added a notable exception for a cheddar with cracked black pepper, but luckily they stopped doing that the moment they realised I liked it, so I can deal in absolutes again Grin

GuyFawkesDay · 29/12/2019 12:48

Ooh I dunno the M&S Cornish cruncher with the salt crystals in is pretty lovely 🤤

wannabebetter · 29/12/2019 12:50

Buffalo I usually would but this year was given 2 hampers, each with a boxed selection in so trying to make the best of it!! I will give away rather than chuck but just would really like to like it and always think I'm missing something!! Thanks for all the suggestions, will be toasting, frying & crumbling later!

wensledale with cranberries is my go to treat for Christmas on ritz crackers only time of year I buy that one, we go to hawes in the summer on the motorbike and I always come home with tons of their cheese, you can go round the showroom tasting bits of the different cheeses they do , and their ice cream is very addictive

VivaLeBeaver · 29/12/2019 12:52

I feel your pain. Dh has brought me a cheese hamper of mass produced, vacuum sealed flavoured cheeses. There must be 20 different flavours. Can't stand that sort of cheese.
