So i had my 5th baby in December 2018. Due to complications ended up having to have an emergency c-section (1st section) Woke up with a cannula in the side of my right wrist. A year on im still suffering with pain in my wrist which is getting worseas the weeks go by, just moving it hurts
Anyone else had anything like this?

Five years ago I was in hospital for planned surgery. A junior doctor tried to insert a cannula into the side of my wrist (I was pre-surgery and fully awake at this point).
AS he did so he hit a nerve which caused me to scream out loud - the pain was the most intense and severe I'd ever experienced (and I've given birth 3 times and had severe Gall Stones!!).

I immediately snatched my hand away and refused to allow the doctor to use that site again.

For the next few months I experience pain and tingling in the area where he had tried to cannulate me - a direct result of a nerve being damaged..

I'm wondering if something similar has happened to you. Because you were asleep when the cannula was inserted you wouldn't feel the pain of the nerve being hit/damaged. The ongoing pain you're experiencing could be linked to a nerve being damaged/repairing itself.

My Dd has been talking about pain from cannulas, she's had in.
I'm really interested in this.
I thought maybe phantom pains, as I had no idea actual pains could be a thing, it's really bothering her though.

Depending of course on what you mean by the ‘side of your wrist’ it’s possible that a nerve could have been irritated by the cannulation or it could just relate to having had a (probably big) cannula in a relatively sensitive spot. It could also be nothing to do with the cannula. If it’s getting worse it’s probably best to see someone who can actually examine you and make a more educated guess about what’s going on for you.

I have a mark where my cannula was, this is sore to touch and the pain from that spot goes both up my thumb and half way down my arm. My cannula didnt bother me, i had 3 blood tranfusions and 1 iron infusion. It came time for me to have a 4th blood transfusion when my cannula had came out abit. The midwife wriggled it back in herself and attached the blood. All i kept saying to my husband was my hand felt wet (which hadn't happened before) The pain isnt a tingle, its sharp and really hurts to the point where sometimes it hurts to even pick up my baby
