Hi, dh and I are thinking of moving to Shrewsbury, can anyone please tell me what it's like? Pros and cons? Where are good places to live? Will my children get a primary school place? Is the traffic always a nightmare?

Sorry, it's not clicky.

Shrewsbury is an attractive town with lots going on. The quarry park by the river is a lovely facility and has lots of events on, such as the flower show and live music. There is an attractive market hall and lots of good shopping. There are plenty of historic buildings giving it a nice air. Traffic and parking can be difficult in the rush hour though.

Hi, thank you! Can you please advise on desirable suburbs and ones to avoid?

I don't live there but we've kept our caravan there for 9 years and plan to retire there.

I can't comment on primary schools or suburbs but traffic wise we only find it busy at weekends when we're cutting through the centre to get to the park and even then it's just a queue for traffic lights and no worse than any other city.

Are you with driving distance to go and look around regularly at different times of day?

Ruraldream · 29/12/2019 10:02

We're only an hour or so away so plan on visiting regularly now. Good news about the traffic.

I live in Shrewsbury. As in all areas you can often tell the more desirable areas by the house prices! Without trying to be offensive to anyone I would say avoid the areas North side of town, Harlescott, Ditherington, Monkmoor ( some nice houses but schools not as good), Castlefields (Schools). Areas which feed into the better schools are Belle Vue, Meole Village, Radbrook, Bowbrook, Copthorne. There are lots of nice villages within a few miles. Town Centre traffic pretty bad now at rush hour as is the bypass around the town. Generally it's a nice town .

Thank you for the advice. We'll begin searching specific areas in the next few months.
