Are they worth it? What kind of recipes can you do in them please?

Do you mean a crock pot?

Yddraigoldragon · 28/12/2019 18:44

Do it. Best gadget ever.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 28/12/2019 18:46

Some people love them. Much prefer my slow cooker but I've got a sewr and stew lakeland one. You can use the instant pot as a slow cooker but I find it a funny size for making things like lassgne in (yes - slow cooker lasagne and aubergine parm are amazing!)

werekitty · 28/12/2019 18:47

I've made risotto, stews, porridge every morning and even mincemeat. It's fabulous, I've just given one as a present to my parents.

Yddraigoldragon · 28/12/2019 18:47

Oops pressed too soon. Recipes soups, stews, steamed and slow cooker anything. Fantastic for quick cooking of pulses. Yoghurt, rice etc. I use mine most days.

cookiemonster5 · 28/12/2019 18:47

I have a pressure king pro because it was cheaper. When it breaks I'm getting an instant pot. I love my pkp it I would love the IP more. Do it. No regrets here.

Keeoe · 28/12/2019 18:51

Oooh, get a Ninja Foodi! They are AMAZING! I love mine. Done alsorts in it. Its roasts and air frys too. Makes the must delicious roasties. And everything else.

NoBlueXmasLightsAllowed · 28/12/2019 18:53

Angie, different thing - Google it.

absolutelyknackeredcow · 28/12/2019 19:40

No regrets here. We made Xmas pud in it this year and it was delicious.
We are living in another property while our house us being refurbed completely and the kitchen may not be delivered in time by the time we have to vacate the rental.. Everyone keeps asking me if I'm stressed but honestly we could make most things in an instant pot / microwave..

wowfudge · 28/12/2019 19:59

They're a useful addition to have. Easier to use than a conventional stove top pressure cooker. The best thing is setting it and being able to walk away.

PaperFlowers4 · 28/12/2019 20:09

I loved mine. Used it several times a week for just over a year, but then it stopped working properly. Since it was a few weeks out of the 1 year warranty Crown Hmm instant pot could only offer me a discount code for a new one. I don’t fancy buying a new appliance which may very well malfunction after a year, even at a discounted price.

It’s a good concept, but disappointing quality. I will probably end up buying a stovetop pressure cooker as there are less components to break down on those

forkfun · 28/12/2019 20:15

I love mine. Find it very useful for cooking things like rice or potatoes and just walk away. We also eat lots of pulses, and they taste so much better cooked from dried.
Also very handy for chillies, curries, risotto, pasta sauces. I can come home, take 10 minutes to chop and saute, put it on for however long, walk away, set table, empty gym bags, put on laundry, etc, and then have dinner.

ElizaCBennett · 28/12/2019 20:16

I’ve got a Tefal Cook4Me. I got in from Ideal World in a deal over 4 months. It’s brilliant! I’ve made soups, bolognese sauce, bread and butter pudding etc. I also par boiled my potatoes and cooked ALL my veg in it on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. I love it!

Helenluvsrob · 28/12/2019 20:18

Get it. Use it and you’ll love it.
You do have to learn a little at the start but it’s often all I use to cook

Glittercandle · 28/12/2019 20:19

I think I’ve had my IP for around three years. I love it and would instantly buy a new one if it broke as I use it so much.

FromEden · 28/12/2019 20:24

Get one. You won't regret it. I even do my boiled eggs in it, perfectly cooked whether soft or hard boiled and they peel so much easier.

Also great for bolognese, can cook it all together including the pasta, curries, soups etc

WishThisWasGin · 28/12/2019 20:26

I cooked my Christmas Ham in it, it was soooo good! I finished it in the oven whilst the goose was resting.

Really easy to use, I use mine all the time.

Only caveat is that its not quite as quick as you think. It needs time to come to pressure and some recipes need you to let the pressure drop naturally. (Natural pressure release or NPR)

It makes the most amazing risotto, juicy chicken, Stews and soups.

You can even bung in a frozen chicken and its perfect.

For me the best part its the keep warm function. When it finishes it automatically keeps the contents warm. You can set it and forget it. Its just faff free!

Notmymug · 28/12/2019 20:31

I love mine, I can put in frozen chicken breasts, veggies, seasoning and spices with a tin of tomatoes or some stock, press a button and 30 minutes later a lovely curry is ready. I cooked a 4kg joint of beef for Christmas dinner in 30 minutes but then some extra time for resting. Once the meal is cooked it keeps it hot so if you have family members wanting feeding at different times it is great.

UnaOfStormhold · 28/12/2019 20:36

Another fan here. It's the ability to walk away and come back to a nicely cooked meal that I love - risotto without all the stirring is a particular pleasure! Yoghurt is also lovely.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 28/12/2019 20:39

Love mine, I do a healthy one pot pasta bolognese that takes about 15 mins (5 mins pressure cook, but takes time to come pressure) the beauty of it is that I can put it on and walk away. Marvellous invention.

Thorilicious · 28/12/2019 20:40

Sounds great, thank you all!

www.facebook.com/groups/InstantPotUKCommunity/?ref=nf_target&fref=nf is a great resource - loads of recipes and tips there.

Basilicaofthemind · 28/12/2019 20:51

I just find everything comes out very watery. It’s good for risotto, rice and I also did my ham in it for Christmas.

VanyaHargreeves · 28/12/2019 20:51

It's amazing and I genuinely would get upset if it broke AND immediate replace.

VanyaHargreeves · 28/12/2019 20:53

RE: Watery, for pasta use stock not water

For sauces, cornflour but not always necessary.
