Just out of interest

As long as an IKEA one as a minimum and they give 25 year guarantees.

Lardlizard · 28/12/2019 16:05

What 25 years against wear and tear ?

I suppose after 20 years I'd want to update kitchen maybe even less . Mind you my in-laws have had their kitchen for about 30 years it's still looks fine but it's dated .

GymBunny2020 · 28/12/2019 16:24

10 wouldn't be long enough for me, I think 15 would be a minimum.

Lardlizard · 28/12/2019 18:37

Mines 15 and starting o look a bit rough around the edges

I think it depends on how you treat the kitchen. My mums kitchen is from B & Q and is about 15 years old but looks relatively new. There is only her and her partner in the house, they cook mainly light meals, all cupboards are lined with protective mats and she doesn't overfill the cupboards.

MIL on the other hand is the opposite. She has various family members constantly in and out of the cupboards, cooks weekly heavy roasts for 10 people and her cupboards are filled to bursting with food and utensils. MILs kitchen will need replacing much sooner than my mums, due to the heavy usage.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 28/12/2019 19:56

My Wren kitchen came with a 20 year guarantee so I expect that to be standard for a kitchen of that price point in the market.

Lardlizard · 28/12/2019 20:48

Empress true

My 18yo b&q kitchen looks ok. Slight chip on the end of one worktop.

VivaLeBeaver · 28/12/2019 20:52

My MIL’s kitchen is 60 years old (not exaggerating). It looks fairly shabby but she says everything works and is happy with it.

I’m just worried dh expects me to not replace our kitchen for another 40 years!

Our MFI kitchen lasted 30 years and we only got rid because we were bored of it. It was virtually as good as it was when first installed. Door handles, hinges etc were still fine, as was the work surface (no scratches, marks, etc), as were the cupboard fronts, carcasses, etc.

We now have most of it installed in the garage for DIY/gardening/hobby work - it's been in the garage about 10 years and still going strong, so 40 years in total!

Pretty impressive really.

I am guilty of looking on Rightmove regularly.
Have noticed our old house is back on the market.
We sold it 10+ years ago and probably put the kitchen in 5 years previous to that.
The photos of the house show they still have the kitchen, so I'd say at least 15-20 years.

sueelleker · 29/12/2019 17:21

Mine's over 30years, and survived one move.
