Cordless vac - dyson or shark

Or any other I should be considering?

Both are a similar price on Amazon at mo. Just want something to whip round the kitchen and bathroom to keep on top of crumbs etc.

I need new vacuum too. Mine gave up over Christmas 🎄 was thinking about another Dyson but would love recommendations for the best light weight hoover out there.

GreenTulips · 28/12/2019 10:51

Much prefer the shark - it’s brilliant

Shark is amazing. I love mine. I wouldn't bother with cordless, not worth it.

Hotsummerplease · 28/12/2019 10:52

I have a cordless Dyson which has been great, but literally waiting for my bargain Shark to be delivered from Amazon today as have seen so many good reviews.

RaininSummer · 28/12/2019 10:52

Love my shark. Dont have cordless but it is heaps better than Dyson.

abitoflight · 28/12/2019 10:55

It has been done but the models seem to change quickly that threads become useless after a few months imo
I have dc10 and shark duo and I'm so impressed with shark for the price

Squigglypig2 · 28/12/2019 11:01

@Hotsummerplease would you mind updating when it arrives? It would be good to get a comparison of both.

I've got the dyson and as much as I like it, for a 'proper' hoover, I always get the old hetty out. The dyson battery also doesn't last long. For the price I'm not overly impressed, but it's handy for a quick hoover round or to do the car.

Hotsummerplease · 28/12/2019 11:06

Squiggly no probs...though it was supposed to be here yesterday so not convinced it will definitely get here today. Think Amazon must have been inundated, my dsis got one too....both ridiculously excitedGrin

Squigglypig2 · 28/12/2019 11:08

@usersouthcoast I'm looking for something lightweight really, we have a miele which is fab but just want something we can pick off wall for post eating etc (we have a toddler who loves running around eating biscuits)

I got the shark duo cordless a couple of weeks ago (it’s a blue one and was £199 if that helps!) and I love it!! I’m pretty horrified at how much it picks up compared to my old vax. For me, although it’s a pain to have to recharge the battery, it’s better than a corded as it’s much easier to do the stairs, so they’re getting done more often. I can do a run around of the house for 2 days on one charge.

Mammyloveswine · 28/12/2019 12:15

Love my shark

PrayingandHoping · 28/12/2019 12:19

My mum has a cordless Dyson. Came a stayed with my for 2 weeks after my c section and used my cordless Shark stick. She now wants a shark!

highlandcoo · 28/12/2019 12:26

Shark is miles better. I've had both. Can get round almost all the house on one battery charge but generally use it to keep on top of the stairs and the odd quick whip round sitting room and kitchen.

I'm much more inclined to get out the cordless because not having to constantly change plugs from room to room seems so much easier.

You do have to empty it frequently though; the dust collection cylinder is tiny.

Thecrown3 · 28/12/2019 14:06

If this is any help I went to Currys yesterday and wanted a shark due to the mn view they are better.
The end of the Hoover ( the brush bar) part are so heavy, I’m only 5ft 5in, and could just about lift them to arm height ( hoovering stairs) they were sooo heavy.
Cordless stick hoovers by hoover were same , there was a light one but the dust collector was so small.
Bosh and Miele both the same , too small.
I plumped for another Dyson which was in sale as I can lift it comfortably.
I’d recommend trying out the hoovers at Currys before buying .

Sn0tnose · 28/12/2019 14:36

I definitely wouldn’t recommend a cordless Dyson. I’ve given up with mine and am borrowing my mum’s Henry until I choose what Shark I want.

PrayingandHoping · 28/12/2019 16:22

@TreacleMoon123 that's the one I have

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 28/12/2019 16:25

Hoover. Dont know what you did to the algorithm but I have now gor a shark ad popup. Big brother is watching

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 28/12/2019 17:35

I have a Vax Blade 32v, I think it’s excellent to be honest. Shark was a little too expensive and we don’t buy Dyson due to principles.

marvelousways · 28/12/2019 18:09

absolutely love my shark cordless. used daily in a house with 4dc , 3 dogs and a cat. Brilliant!

marvelousways · 28/12/2019 18:11

oh, and I have a corded and cordless shark. Only use the corded one about once every 10 days or so.

AlwaysCheddar · 28/12/2019 18:30

I hate my new shark. It’s crap.only bought it as I’m fed up of dyson batteries slowing day after a few years.

Hotsummerplease · 29/12/2019 09:03

Squiggly so Shark arrived last night. It's significantly heavier than my Dyson, but on carpets it's so powerful it literally pulls you along! I did one room that I had hoovered the day before with my Dyson, and it filled the dust container! So definitely superior power. Am sure I'll get used to the weight difference, but that could be a consideration.
