PREGNANT!! FOOD POISON

I’ve not long found out I am pregnant but I’m so worried about something going wrong. I was up my parents and they give me a bowl of Turkey stew. My concern is the turkey was left over off Christmas Day and it’s been slow cooking ALL day on low and didn’t realise until they told me. I’m at risk of food poisoning or am I being paranoid? I’m really worried. I very much appreciate advice? With me only being early pregnant

You’re being paranoid. I take it this is your first? Just take a deep breath.
Would you eat it normally? If so great, if not don’t. Baby will soon tell you if it doesn’t like something. I’m also pregnant, my eating habits have changed nada

You'd be surprised how hot the low setting is - and for a protracted period too! It will have got up to temperature.

I'm a terrible fuss pot about food hygiene and illness but even I wouldn't be too concerned about this. Congrats on the pregnancy. Flowers

I had the exact same panic when I absentmindedly had a bite of my partner's rare steak early in my pregnancy. I'm 40 weeks now and everything is fine.

You're unlikely to get food poisoning from this one-off. Just take it slow and see how you feel.

Thank you for the reply it’s my 2nd baby my son is 4 I didn’t worry so much with him but I just feel so different with this one like I can describe the feeling I just always fear the worst because I’m also doing heavy lifting at work and doing such long hours so I’m always thinking ‘is the baby going to be okay’ I think I’m just being paranoid 😩

You'll be fine.

It's food poisoning not poison.

Eating previously cooked meat is normal. What do you think is in packets of ham or chicken?

Don't worry too much.

Fishcakey · 28/12/2019 00:06

@underneaththeleash aren't you a clever girl!

WhoisitnowRalph · 28/12/2019 00:10

Don't be smug underneath. OP may have mistyped so autocorrect fixed it back to "poison" for her.

And she was referring to cooked and cooled turkey being reheated slowly, not eating it cold from a pack like ham.

Tartyflette · 28/12/2019 00:21

So the turkey was cooked on the 25th, you ate a stew made with the leftovers on the 27th.
A slow cooker still cooks meat thoroughly, even on the off-chance it hadn't been cooked properly originally. (And if it had it been cooked properly on the 25th the rest of the family might be showing symptoms by now.)

Meat such as beef or lamb for a stew would never become tender if it didn't cook at a certain temperature - and don't slow cookers heat up considerably in the initial stages of cooking, before reducing to a lower temperature? That would kill off any pathogens.
I'm sorry you're anxious about this baby, perhaps have a word with someone at work about the heavy lifting? Or could you discuss it with your GP?

Tartyflette · 28/12/2019 00:23

Sorry. ....hadn't been cooked properly on the 25th...
