HELP! What is this pudding/dessert called???

My mum (78) is driving me mad! We were talking about puddings and she said she likes a dessert her mum used to make.

It is similar to blancmange, but more like jelly and she thinks it begins with M.

Anyone have a clue??

Mousse?

dontticklethetoad · 27/12/2019 14:14

I don't think so. It will be something from the 40s/50s?

I think it's junket.

So much for it starting with M!

I think I remember it! But can't think what it's called...

Egghead68 · 27/12/2019 14:19

My money is on junket but possibly milk jelly (jelly with evaporated milk in it?)

Coldhandscoldheart · 27/12/2019 14:20

Junket? I mean, I know it doesn’t begin with m, but it is similar to blancmange. or flummery? But that’s really quite old fashioned.

Actually, some people used to call things like blancmange ‘Mould’ I think as they were set in a mould. Off the top of my head.

Egghead68 · 27/12/2019 14:20

Oh sorry - just read your update!

Coldhandscoldheart · 27/12/2019 14:20

Cross posted with everyone!

Coldhandscoldheart · 27/12/2019 14:21

Don’t let her make it for you by the way, it’s grim.

Lonecatwithkitten · 27/12/2019 14:23

Could be a symingtons table cream?

eddiemairswife · 27/12/2019 14:29

I remember having it as a child. It is supposed to be easily digestible; slightly slimy texture. It was made from a packet of pink powder and warm, not hot, milk. I got some when my 1st child was about a year old. As I spooned it in, he spat it out. I never tried it again.

Egghead68 · 27/12/2019 14:37

I think junket is delicious (but sadly not vegetarian). Far better than blancmange (or worse, sago pudding).

Egghead68 · 27/12/2019 14:37

I think it’s just milk, sugar, vanilla and rennet.
