Any advice wise MNers? Do I need to get curtains as well or paint the walls darker or something (currently cream walls) It's too light and I have trouble falling asleep

I have blinds. The light seeps then bounces off white walls. I bought 'blackout window film' off eBay. It goes on very easily, is removable & works beautifully. Just be careful trimming the edges. She trimmed mine a little to close & light still seeps in, but not enough to be a problem.

oversize cotton fabric sleep hat I can pull over my eyes. Mask would slip on me too, and I need light when awake.

I have a blackout blind in dds room that velcros to the window frame. You stick the velcro on the frame and the special fabric sticks directly to it. No light seepage and you can just pull the fabric off if you need to. Not sure how it would work for bay windows though.

I have black-out blinds which, when combined with fairly heavy curtains, do a good job of keeping the light out in winter. In summer, however, I need to wear sleep masks - I have several but my favourite is one where the space over the eyes is slightly hollowed out so that the mask isn't pressed against your face while you sleep. Takes a bit of getting used to but is comfortable enough and I hardly notice it's there after a few nights.

But I really think the only thing that stops 100% - or damn close - of the light getting into a room are those Italian style wooden or metal shutters. They're fab!

Here is what you need.

Blackout fabric. Inexpensive. Velcro down the sides. You can have it cut to fit each window. You have it a few centimetres bigger than the window so you have no light seeping in.

I have used these for 18 months. They are amazing. The bedroom is pitch black and I mean pitch black. I used to work nights and no light would come in. It didn't stop the dog next door barking throughout the day or the kids across the back screaming their heads off all day but there was no light at all. I can't sleep if there's light.

as it's a big window and will need a special rail for the bay and probably made to measure curtains as it's wide

We had a massive bay in our last house. Wilkos do a bendy curtain track and we bought two lots of long thick grey ikea curtains (40ppair). It was a really cost effective way to do it.

Thanks pixie1979 that looks great, and affordable

bernadette thanks I'll have a look in Wilko too, and 2 pairs of curtains is a good idea

Ooh Pixie I wish I’d got those instead of the magnetic ones now (mine are the same idea but with magnetic tape, trouble is the tape is stiff so they can’t be folded up in the day).
