What could this mark on my breast be? Pic included

I've had this red mark on my breast about 2cm to the side of my nipple. It's been there for a week. It is flat, non painless, not itchy, not hot. Perfectly round. A little bit bigger than a 5p coin. I've just got over a bad virus and now am coming down with a mild cold but no other symptoms, marks or rashes (yet!).

I'm sure it's nothing but honestly, you need to make an urgent GP appointment because if it were something, it's potentially a very nasty something.

It looks like a reaction, although I'd expect that to itch. Have you slept on anything or is something inside your bra causing it?

Please make an appointment - don't delay when it comes to the boob.

Itsashame · 26/12/2019 13:01

Totally agree, get to the docs op as soon as you can. It could be nothing but not worth taking a chance

Whatisthisarghhh · 26/12/2019 13:26

Thanks for your replies. Will make a GP appointment. It hasn't grown any bigger so fingers crossed it is nothing worrying. Obviously inflammatory breast cancer came up when I goggled but I know that is very rare and tends to cover more of the boob. Pretty sure it isn't a reaction. And nothing in my bra etc. Not used any new laundry powder or creams.

It looks a bit like ringworm to me - my DH had recently and it looked like that for a week then the edge got darker.but I am not in any way a doctor or medical professional and boob stuff should always be checked by a gp

lisag1969 · 26/12/2019 14:01

I had it a few weeks ago. I went to the Gp. She gave me antibiotics as it was burning hot , she said I had an infected cyst, there as there is a little lump under it. She is sending me for a mammogram too, just to be on the safe sIde. She say nothing to really worry about, I may have knocked it and started the infection off. So you may need antibiotics. X

Whatisthisarghhh · 26/12/2019 15:49

Thanks for replying. I haven't been near any pets or animals so not sure about ringworm. It isn't at all warm or sore. Very strange!

Looks like ringworm to me or an eczema patch.

Plumpciousness · 26/12/2019 16:05

I have a similar mark on the sole of my foot, which I've had for decades. Perfect circle, mine is slightly smaller than a 5p coin. Nothing bad has happened, so far! But I agree with other posters, better to get it checked because of where yours is.

I'll be interested to find out if it has a name. I wonder if it's like a birth mark, but which develops in later life?

GloGirl · 26/12/2019 16:24

Super urgent GP appointment for that one.

Dont think its ring worm as ringworm is a bit rough and scaly. Probably thrush but needs checking.

BlankTimes · 26/12/2019 16:27

Discoid Eczema?

Miljea · 26/12/2019 16:31

Super urgent? Why? What is going through your mind?

Whatisthisarghhh · 26/12/2019 17:21

Thanks. Don't think it is thrush. Have had that before when I've been breastfeeding. Is completely flat and smooth. Not at all itchy either which makes me think it's not eczema.

Hi OP. Yes, of course go to your GP, but I bet I know what it is - the herald patch of pityriasis rosea:
www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/pityriasis-rosea/symptoms-causes/syc-20376405

When I was breastfeeding ten years ago, I had my first bout of it and the herald patch was on my boob. It just appeared one day, was flat, smooth and red, but quite large. No itching, no pain. Then the other patches appeared in due course - it looked disgusting, but I had no other problems (occasional mild itching, for which I used Aveeno). The other patches eventually were a little more scaly with the lacy border you'll see described in the literature.

Ever since, when I'm slightly under the weather, I get a mini outbreak; just yesterday I realized I had a "herald patch" on my breast and two small patches on my abdomen - had I not head the proper rash ten years ago, I would not recognize them now as anything other than random redness (scaly border is the giveaway sign). They'll go away, until next time.

Miljea · 26/12/2019 18:26

I'm still intrigued to know what GloGirl thinks it is, that warrants a panic-inducing 'super-urgent' GP appointment!

Whatisthisarghhh · 26/12/2019 18:33

Slavica thanks - pityriasis rosea looks like it might be it. No other marks so far byt it has been just a week. Will wait for more but will get a GP appointment just in case. The mark has now gone a bit shimmery too which seems right for PR.
I'm guessing Glogirl is thinking about inflammatory breast cancer. I think it is unlikely but worth getting it rules out I think.

I had similar for ages then a big patch under my boob. Dr gave me antifungal cream and it cleared up - took AGES! Dr was totally unworried by it. I got bored of doing the cream and it cleared up by itself.

Absolutely needs checking but no need for alarm

Serin · 26/12/2019 19:48

Fungal infection?
If you have any canestan cream then I'd put some on while you wait for your GP appointment.

Miljea · 27/12/2019 23:07

But you already told us it was not hot or itchy which kind of rules out 'inflammatory'!

The sort of talk using terms like 'super urgent' possibly wasn't that helpful if you were prone to panic and anxiety like every other user of MN appears to be!

Rathersexyfortysomethingblonde · 02/05/2020 17:53

Did you ever found out what was it?

Did you ever find out what it was?

Whatisthisarghhh · 04/05/2021 19:33

No! It just disappeared after about 2 or 3 weeks. Went to the GP who said she'd refer me if it hadn't gone in a week. She had no idea what it was!

Bella8383 · 04/05/2021 21:02

Because i have the same thing I went to a tanning bed because I'm going to the beach so I wanted to get a better suntan so I thought it was from that but it's only been for me like 4 days now and I don't know why I have a I have exactly the same redness and doesn't hurt it doesn't itch just there
