A thread for people who don’t think Christmas is over yet

The kids aren’t back in school until 6th, and decorations stay up until then too. For us, Christmas doesn’t end at midnight on 25th. We’ve still got loads of nice food to eat and new things to play with/ coo over. We’ve still got more relatives coming over at the weekend to exchange gifts. I’m hoping for a few wintry walks, plenty of board games and a long lazy Christmas. What’s everyone else got planned? (I may steal some ideas...)

Full on festive here until January 3rd then relaxing weekend before kids go back on the 6th. DH and I back on the 7th Xmas Smile.

Traditional Boxing Day play today. Baths, new pyjamas and Lego!

Then dinners, brunches, gift exchanges, coffees, walks, cinema, nights by the tree with twinkly lights and vintage port. I love it!

Ted27 · 26/12/2019 12:44

weather is rubbish so PJ day today, breakfast out with friends tomorrow, theatre on Saturday, day out with friends Monday, overnight trip to London for Kew Garden lights with friends on Thursday/Friday, day out with my son's brother on Saturday.
Lots of chilling out in between, we've had a difficult year, my son is working hard for GSCEs, he is out most mornings doing his paper rounds so don't mind him vegging out on the PS4 and watching football. If we get any decent days weather wise we'll do some work on the allotment. Tree doesnt come down until 12th Night.

Okbutno · 26/12/2019 12:49

It definitely doesn't end at midnight on 25th. I think that's quite sad. Obviously unless you have personal reasons for wanting it done, like bereavement. We're staying in playing video games today eating lots and seeing family this evening. Then more family at the weekend, and lots more relaxing at home.

Definitely not over! I haven't even had any cheese yet Shock

alliejay81 · 26/12/2019 12:55

Definitely not over! If anything 26th - 31st are my very favourite days (less stress, still lots of fun).

Seeing more family. More big meals. Drinking in the afternoon. Building Lego. Playing board games. Fun all the way!

Although DS does have a birthday in that period too so need to do some more wrapping 😱.

mencken · 26/12/2019 13:10

lights and decs stay up to the 6th - it is such a miserable dark time of year that it all helps.

Most of MN will have been pratting about with tatmas since September and will now be looking to waste money on Easter. Here's to those of that live more in the moment!

LoonyLunaLoo · 26/12/2019 13:17

Died I felt not over here til the 6th. We’ve got a few more family dos, New Year’s Eve at friends, shopping to spend DS’s Christmas money, bike rides etc.

Parker231 · 26/12/2019 13:20

Last day of Christmas for us today as DH and I are both back at work tomorrow. Decorations come down the morning of NYE to make extra space for our big party.

isittheholidaysyet · 26/12/2019 13:27

Thank goodness for you all.
I am a 12th of the way into Christmas.

People keep asking me if I've had a good Christmas, well yes, so far, but it's only just beginning.

Didn't put decorations up till 23rd. Christmas was locked away until after Church on the night of 24th/25th.

I'm ready for 12 days of feasting now!

Howmanysleepsnow · 26/12/2019 13:45

Ooh, lovely that there’s so many of us! I’m going to add cheese, a long candlelit soak in the bath and watching the Snowman to my “plans” for today!

Its not over here either. We are going to a Xmas market tomorrow as haven't had time due to me working right up to Xmas eve.
Lazy day here just some washing done and ready for 2nd Xmas dinner later😀 even had a long lie after not sleeping for a few nights due to rotten cough/cold.

Working sat -tues so making most of days off this week.

Don't understand all the prep done for a lovely xmas for every one then rushing to have Xmas done by Xmas day if you don't have a good reason for it. Jmho.

Frogsandsheep · 26/12/2019 13:54

In the church the season if Christmas has only just begun Smile I’ve got lots of plans and family to see over the next week or so.

moglovesmincepies · 26/12/2019 13:58

I think I'll take the cards for recycling tomorrow whilst in town but apart from that it's Christmas until the decs come down on the 5th

JoyceJames · 26/12/2019 14:20

I'm cooking a box day joint of beef and DS and I have made a nice tart based pudding.

MirandaWest · 26/12/2019 14:24

It’s still Christmas here. Going down to see relations tomorrow for a few days. Really can’t understand taking decorations down yet - I find it very odd when people do on Christmas Day

maddiemookins16mum · 26/12/2019 14:28

I’m not back at work for another week and have already been off 6 days.
We booked a hotel in Brighton for two nights, leaving tomorrow and are going to see Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Cant wait. Home again Sunday, chill on Monday, NYE indian buffet party on Tuesday night. I’m treating it as a lovely long break with good company, too much food and things to do.

BearSoFair · 26/12/2019 14:30

Boxing Day is better than Christmas Day in my opinion! It's calmer, everyone has time to appreciate their gifts more, seeing family is more laid back...it's just nicer.

Tomorrow is a quiet day for us, Saturday we're visiting my family (we've seen MIL and SIL today), Sunday we might go to the cinema and see if Cats really is THAT bad Grin, no plans for Monday then NYE with just a few close friends, nothing over the top!

nearlythere12 · 26/12/2019 14:34

I didn't realise this was abnormal. Surely it's not worth the stress & agg for one day? We always spend boxing day with family & eat another xmas dinner (leftovers go on forever). Between xmas & NY should be spent lazing about, indulging & watching TV, imo, it's good for the soul. After NYs day (see family with another roast) the health kick starts & the decluttering/organising begins which includes decorations coming down some point around 6th Jan. I love it?

nearlythere12 · 26/12/2019 14:35

! not ?

Felipa · 26/12/2019 14:40

I have found my people!
Full on festive atmosphere in our house..
Christmas pjs, leftovers, visitors, all decorations up for another week.
We still have the panto, walks to look at the lights, a Christmas night out and ice skating.

TheSubtleArt · 26/12/2019 14:44

It started officially in our house about 4pm on Christmas Eve when everything was prepped, wrapped and tidied. It's only Boxing Day- we have things planned up until jan 2nd. Enjoy and be Merry!!!

flapjackfairy · 26/12/2019 14:48

I dont admit defeat until around the end of March when the clocks change ! Only then will I accept it is completely over as the nights are getting lighter again. I try to leave my tree up beyond the 6th Jan every year but end up chickening out following undue pressure from dh and kids.
But as soon as 25th June is over I consider it to be downhill all the way and as soon as the school hols are done I am in full Christmas mode again ! I just love it !
My family reconsider me to be a bit bonkers mind !

HelloGabriel · 26/12/2019 15:40

Count me in Grin🎄

Didn't manage to finish reading 'A Box of Delights' so will finish that off later! I did however manage to make my own posset Smile

Howmanysleepsnow · 27/12/2019 10:20

I’ve a bit of a non-Christmassy morning today (admin and dentist) but fully intend to get back in the spirit later. All my outdoor Christmas lights will be back on (need to change batteries in some), I’ll play with kids new toys, watch films, wear new clothes and eat leftovers/ Christmas chocolates. Am considering a NT place for the decorations and a winter walk at the weekend. Kids have asked to go ice skating too so will fit that in somewhere

We are having friends over on Sunday night and then DS mates are coming for NYE. I don’t take the tree down till 12th night.
