Anyone else? It's going to be a long night.

The only way you’d get me in A&E is if I was dying or a limb was hanging off!!

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 24/12/2019 21:22

Dunno.

Come out in a hideous rash. Itching is horrendous. Ice, sudocrem and antihistamines not helping.

It's getting worse. Debating calling 111...

Pieceofpurplesky · 24/12/2019 21:25

I did as a child many years ago as I had a pine needle in my finger that had gone septic and was tracking. It put me off being a doctor as a man came in with all his fingers in a jar where he had trapped them in a door ....

anxioussue · 24/12/2019 21:26

Call 111

bloodywhitecat · 24/12/2019 21:29

Spent a good few Christmas Eves there, it took me 5 years to figure out the reason for DD's annual Christmas hospital stays were not due to excitement but were caused by the tree we'd put up earlier in the day.

GrandmaSharksDentures · 24/12/2019 21:29

Yep, my mum has spent the day in A&E. Worst Christmas Eve ever

shineynewnamey · 24/12/2019 21:37

Call 111 They told me to go.

What should I take? I have a book and water. It's just me.

What happened, ShinyNN?

shineynewnamey · 24/12/2019 21:38

Two books, plenty of water. A box of chocolates or biscuits for the staff, they deserve it.

Spotty528 · 24/12/2019 21:39

I’d take food and a small over night bag. Hope you’re ok!

GreenTulips · 24/12/2019 21:39

I’ve been already. Wasn’t too bad. Some parts were packsaddles.

Good luck

AJPTaylor · 24/12/2019 21:40

Earphones

Difficultcustomer · 24/12/2019 21:43

Yes a few years ago with nosebleed. Staff were great, but a miserable way to start Christmas.

Crunchymum · 24/12/2019 21:46

Am I missing something? I'd expect A&E to be empty? (I imagine skeleton staff though so maybe that's the issue?)

shineynewnamey · 24/12/2019 21:49

Grabbed puzzle books.

Not sure, tachycardia? My pulse was 130.

I went in 2 years ago with pneumonia after calling 111. They had a GP on duty, I was called through in under 15 minutes, sent off for an xray that took an hour, back to see GP again in 20 minutes or so, then dispatched with a bag full of medication including steroids, inhalers and antibiotics. Was in and out in under 2 hours, very gratefully.

They were extremely well prepared for the amount of patients.

girlofthenorth · 24/12/2019 21:58

Go - you should go soon . We spent yesterday eve about this time in with elderly DF. Rubbish place to be at Christmas but best to get sorted .
Take charger / iPad / snacks / phone / water . Good luck !

lljkk · 24/12/2019 21:58

Do you feel rubbish or did something else make you notice your pulse was high?

Elieza · 24/12/2019 21:58

Take everything you need for a potential ten hours or whatever.

If you think they may want to monitor your heart you could be there overnight. Take toothbrush, book or online book on your phone, snacks. Don’t worry about pj’s though as they can give you a gown if you’ve to stay overnight.
Hope you are feeling better soon.

TheFairyCaravan · 24/12/2019 22:02

DS2 worked today, and is working tomorrow. He said it was less busy than it usually is so you might not be waiting too long.

Good luck. Hope it's nothing serious and you're soon home.

shineynewnamey · 24/12/2019 22:08

Embarassingly its my fault. I drank alcohol (xmas lunch) with meds. I felt shaky. I have a pulse oximeter due to rare lung disease and that's why I noticed.

I might just sit in the waiting area for a bit.

PurpleFrames · 24/12/2019 22:21

I went in last time with pulse 155- i was allowed home the same eve so don't panic.

shineynewnamey · 24/12/2019 22:24

Just saw someone. He could not have been more lovely. God love our NHS staff.

It is really quiet.

There is a really upset lady and I really want to tell her things will be okay. She came in with 2 family members who said she has a drinking problem and she said she needs psychiatric help. She is so upset.

OP posts:
PurpleFrames · 24/12/2019 22:27

I hate seeing people upset it's awful :(
Just good that she's got family there it's horrid being in a&e alone

Concentrate on yourself if you can x
