I don’t have children and have on the whole made my peace with this but I do feel it on Christmas Eve.

Tell me what utter joys or pains in the arse your children are being tonight.

I've got one very small DS who is teething and full of cold, so overtired in my arms currently. 8yo DS very excited for the morning and talking away to himself in his bed. Hes bakes his cookies for santa and left out milk and a carrot. He is beyond excited this year.

Figgygal · 24/12/2019 20:37

They've been horrendous
Loads of shouting us at them and them at each other
Stressed to the ceiling

MotorwayDiva · 24/12/2019 20:38

It's has been a long headache of a day, ended with a two hour bedtime. Next Christmas won't do anything the week before Xmas they get so much e, cotement in school

Bad things - been estranged from grown up children from several years due to very acrimonious divorce and very difficult exH

Good things- reconnected with my son this year and after 7 months of seeing him again will spend Christmas afternoon with him.

So happy, feel miracles can happen. Merry Christmas all and those with difficult family dynamics thinking of you all xx

dancemom · 24/12/2019 20:38

Dd is sick, 2 separate infections and a reaction to the antibiotics so throwing up also 🤮

So our plans to go to family today till Boxing Day are our the window! Hoping Uber eats deliver tomorrow cos I have no food in 🙈

festivefrustration · 24/12/2019 20:40

Mine are in bed now but I’m not sure if they’re asleep.

We went ice skating today and got the last few bits and bobs we needed for tomorrow. Had a takeaway for tea then the kids had a bath and we watched The Tiger Who Came To Tea (brilliant btw!!!).

They put out a Prosecco glass of milk for Santa, a carrot for rudolph, two Oreos and some sweeties.

CaptainCarp · 24/12/2019 20:42

SDC have had a pretty manic afternoon getting presents off family as they are only with us tomorrow for a few hours in the morning.
Managed to convince them to get teeth brushed / pj's in bed in exchange for 2 stories (as it's Christmas Xmas Wink ) but then we did have whinging & I'm hungrys when it was time to go to sleep! They had a supper half an hour before bed as they said they were hungry then which is more than usual.

Funnily after claiming all this they were fast asleep in 10mins Grin

Now got to wait an hour as that's usually a bit of a stir /sleep walk time & finally I'll be able to put the Santa presents out & go to bed myself for the possible early wake up call!

bookworm14 · 24/12/2019 20:45

DD (4) is extremely excited but has been surprisingly well behaved. She sat and listened to the whole of The Night Before Christmas, and has (I think) gone to sleep without a fight. She has requested a ‘note from Santa’ in her stocking, which grandad will have to write so she doesn’t recognise the handwriting!

It will be interesting to see what time she wakes up tomorrow...

troppibambini · 24/12/2019 20:45

We've had around five couples over this afternoon in totally we had 16 children.
It was magical. They all played/ran wild and just generally had a ball.
We all had food and wine and all walked up to the church at 5 for the first mass of Christmas. They loved it as they saw all their mates from school.
We've all walked home together and they were all fizzing with excitement!!
Two are asleep, third is on her way up and eldest is chilling with us.

Bickles · 24/12/2019 20:46

DS7 is very excited and spinny but so cute. He read us the Night Before Christmas beautifully and has left Santa a gingerbread biscuit and milk with a note that says “Help yourself Santa, I love you, from DS”.
He’s at such a lovely age.

BournvilleGreen · 24/12/2019 20:50

Mine are both very tired, so have already bathed and in pyjamas. DD (13) is doing a crossword with DH who is quite ill atm, whilst DS (10) is in his room listening to rock music Xmas Grin
I think I'm about to chivvy them off to bed as I haven't actually wrapped a single thing yet...
We're having a very low-key Christmas, so it's very chilled, and not anxiety filled like some years have been.

FrangipaniBlue · 24/12/2019 20:51

I've just had a row with shower dodging stb 12 DS (if he survives the next 14 days to his birthday...,)

Me "get in the shower please"

DS "I only had one yesterday"

"No, you last had one on Saturday. Get in the shower and clean PJs on please"

"But I only put these on yesterday"

"No, you put them on on Saturday when you last had a shower, GET IN THE SHOWER!"

ThinkWittyThoughts · 24/12/2019 20:51

Shits. Absolute little shits.

But.

I know it's the monthly long build up of excitement and adrenaline. They'll be fine in the morning.

Also, I've had wine Wink

LunaLovesgood · 24/12/2019 20:52

We went to mass tonight where nearly 4 year old DD announced that baby Jesus needs a birthday cake and asked everyone who was getting it for him Blush she's in bed now and decided she didn't want a story because then Santa would come quicker...

neversleepagain · 24/12/2019 20:56

Mine have been surprisingly calm and helpful today. We've been away the last few days and today was spent doing washing and tidying the house which they happily helped me with. They are very excited and have just gone to bed with their empty stockings at the foot of their beds. They are 7.

CroissantsAtDawn · 24/12/2019 21:02

They have been talking non stop about Christmas and presents. The 5 year old has been panicking about putting the stockings out since Saturday.

At dinner the 8 year old exclaimed "oh no, tomorrow there's another whole year until Christmas!" Hmm

We went to a show then I made them walk the 4km home to try and tire them out. It didn't work, they ve still been running around like maniacs. Amazingly both fell asleep easily though cos they were both up at 6.30am this morning....

CroissantsAtDawn · 24/12/2019 21:04

Oh and on the long walk home from the theatre they sang carols. Badly and out of tune. But I still love them.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 24/12/2019 21:05

My normally boisterous DD has mainly been a delight today. DS otoh is far too excited and is almost literally climbing the walls. He's making me tired just looking at him. He's spent the last 15 minutes demanding to know why I won't share my gin with him (he's 7 is not a good enough reason apparently).

DrDiva · 24/12/2019 21:06

My poor DS has had a stomach bug so has spent the afternoon throwing up. Crashed out at 6:15 so we have had time to wrap the remaining presents. I hope he feels better in the morning and hasn’t given his bug to us!!

Mylittlepony374 · 24/12/2019 21:10

3 year old high as a kite on sugar. She hardly ever has it and today's been all candy canes, biscuits and chocolate. But she flat out refused (read ”screamed hysterically”) my suggestion of chocolates and Bailey's to be left out for Santa. He's getting apples and milk.

Livingthedream12345 · 24/12/2019 21:11

Took DD7 to see father Christmas last friday. He told her she needed to get a carrot and chop it into 7 pieces for the reindeer. Tonight she's done that...and left a note by the chimney with an arrow pointing FC to the dining table. We can't leave carrot and mince pie on the hearth as the dogs will eat them.

Juanbablo · 24/12/2019 21:16

Mine have been ok. A few years from the youngest (tired and overwhelmed). But on the whole they have been good today, they went to bed very nicely. I can definitely expect a really early wake up call though.

cricketmum84 · 24/12/2019 21:20

Mine have been lovely.

We have had a very hard year with a lot of issues with my eldest (15) and her MH issues. Her little sister (10) has left a letter to Santa saying she really doesn't mind if he doesn't leave any presents for her as long as her sister gets some because she deserves them the most. Had me in absolute floods!

They both headed off to bed 20 mins ago after leaving out some milk and a mince pie and some carrots. Not a sound since.

Can not wait to see their faces in the morning!

CombyourhairNow · 24/12/2019 21:28

Well we’ve been to the garden centre for a hot chocolate, then for a walk then made choc cookies.

DS baby tooth’s hanging on by a tether so he was in hysterics as it was bleeding (he could taste it) and his sister was howling saying he looks like Dracula.... to which he starting a squealing even more.

They’ve also nearly had the Christmas tree down twice running about! DS shouts when he talks so in the garden centre I’m pretty sure the people 8 tables to the left would have been able to hear his stories!

DH has been repeating ‘close the door’, ‘knock the light off’ all day and generally getting under my feet cos I’m not used to him being home all day and getting on my nerves.

And I can’t wait to put that bludy ‘elf’ on a shelf away until next year cos I’m sick to death of dressing him, pjs on pjs off, jacket on, jacket off.... for ds.

Aside from that it’s been wonderful. I do love Christmas Eve when we’re all off and just pottering about.

DS is in bed now and DD will be going soon so we can start running around like loons getting the bin liners ready 🤣

ParkheadParadise · 24/12/2019 21:34

Dd(4) has finally gone to sleep.
She so excited about Santa I hope she stays in bed all night.
We made biscuits for Santa earlier, if Santa was real and ate them he'd probably die on the spot😂😂.
Time now for a couple of drinks before we start sorting out the presents.
Merry Christmas Everyone 🥂🎄
